Thanks to the bad influence of this forum, I ordered a Gannon hat months ago. It came yesterday:

It's a dress weight Whiskey with a rust ribbon and binding.
I got it to put a crease in it similar to the Medford Man from Double Indemnity. Wish me luck.

That is a great crease! I've tried similar with my camp drafts with no luck. Jimmy Stewart wears a very nice hat in the movie "Bell, Book and Candle" where there's a center dent with a slight rise in the middle seemingly to accommodate the top of one's head.

There’s 2 things I wanted to try to match the hat better than my Campdraft:
1. No taper
2. Thinner dress weight felt
Doing those deep creases on something with too much of a taper or on too thick of felt just doesn’t work in my experience.

Looks like you have plenty of crown to work with, and I can just imagine the fun you'll have with it!

So, I was messing around with shaping my new hat and settled on this crease. Large center dent but instead of moving the diamond shape towards the back like I normally would I opted for a more symmetrical one. So the profile is even and from the front it's a little more of a square look with very shallow front dents. I love this hat. IMG_8984.jpg IMG_8985.jpg IMG_8988.jpg

I realized I haven't posted my new Gannon to this thread yet. It is a highwayman in Granite with charcoal ribbon, 5 1/2" open crown and 2 3/4 brim. I had it sent open crown and have been trying to decide what bash I like best I have tried a center dent with a pinch and now a diamond.

Congrats on the NHD (new hat day)!

Granite is a fav felt. I like that it can pair with warm and cool clothing. Easy wearing. I love the style.

I look forward to seeing more of your special hat. Cheers, Eric -

Great hat. I love how granite can shift from gray to brown: wonderful hat all around.

This hat has a lot of firsts for me and for Gannon. I believe it’s the first vented crown hat he’s made. It’s the first hat with three rows of concentric brim stitching he’s made, and it’s the first rabbit fur felt hat I’ve received from Michael (my first, not his). I believe it could also be the first non-Winchester sourced rabbit fur felt from Gannon, but that’s just a guess. I sourced the felt and sent it to Gannon. The red liner is just tucked behind the sweatband and when the weather warms I’ll remove it to take full advantage of the venting.

The open crown is approximately 6 ⅝” (not a typo) and the brim is 2 ⅞” wide.

It’s vaguely inspired by the Playboy, but certainly not a clone.

Very nice! I really like the brim stitching and proportions.
