I'm already short on closet space. If I do buy another jacket it needs to be an absolute grail piece. As nice as this campus is, it's not nicer than anything I already own.

For some reason, while I can appreciate patina on leather, I do not have the same feeling toward holes in Wool. Super minor stuff that isn't noticeable I can tolerate. But in my sick mind, a hole is a hole for the most part and I consider it a bothersome flaw. With vintage wool--- holes are almost par for the course whereas leather will have wear but often not actual holes in it.
I know these are small holes and don't detract from the coolness of the piece. But I can't bring myself to pay more than a couple hundred bucks on wool that has holes. I am still getting my feet wet with vintage wool. In time maybe I'll get over it. I need therapy.
It IS a great piece though. And the hunt for vintage wool is much more of a challenge to find gems especially flawless ones that aren't too pricey.
You don't see enough cool repro wool work wear. Maybe in Japan but not US made other than maybe some RL stuff here and there. Surprised we don't see more vintage styles in repro these days. I would expect to see Woolrich/Filson and others making half belts and other cool non hunting jackets. There is a lot of cool stuff that could be reproduced in wool with much less an undertaking as it would be to do so in Leather. Too much damn Buffalo Plaid out there!!!!!!!! STOP with the Buffalo Plaid!!!!!! I get that its basically an accepted "uniform" for hunting. Either that or there was an Elmer Fudd convention of some magnitude that occurred back in the day. But there is a glut of Buff Plaid out there.
I don’t think a repro from the modern Filson or Woolrich would be something anyone on here would be interested in given their move towards lowering costs (for them) and lowering their quality (for us). Sooner Dehen 1920, Old Town, or some of the usual Japanese suspects.

While I don't totally disagree, I will say I see some pretty high priced Filson items --- I see a lotta their new Cruisers and other jackets in the $350-$600 range and I have seen plenty much higher than that in different Filson models. They have a rough out leather jacket (leather not wool I realize) but that jacket retails at like $1250 or something.
Wool isn't THAT pricey. The wools I have seen by Aero aren't that pricey so I would think a domestic company without the exchange rate etc. would be able to produce a relatively decent quality wool garment in a cool vintage style and still have plenty of room for profit.
For them, it would merely be another style of jacket. Another aspect of the brand to market. I wouldn't think it would be cost prohibitive as there are a few mills here in the States and they are already using wool regularly. Plus--these (Woolrich, Filson etc.) are historic brands that even base some of their marketing and brand appeal on their rich history. Maybe its just too niche a market for those styles??? The only dudes buying them would be like 20 of us here in the Lounge!!!!! BUT at least we would each prolly buy more than one!!! LOL
Not saying their prices are low, just that in the interest of lowering their own costs and maximizing their profits they’ve moved most of their production offshore. I think for a quality made garment domestic labour costs would account for quite a bit of the final price, look at what Dehen charges for US made jackets. I’ve no idea how avaricious they are, but I own one of their motorcycle sweaters and can attest to the quality in materials and construction.
