Great brim and crown proportions. Great looking hat. Do you know who made the hats for Penny's at that time?

Thanks, fedoralover. As far as I know, Lee made the Marathon line for J.C. Penney. Don't know if this ever changed over time.

Cheers,
JtL

I own one myself and just love it! I had to have the lining and sweatband replaced, which was disappointing, but no one sees that when in on my head anyway.
I also have my Dad's original 'Marathon' from the '50s'. It is of reduced dimensions - more of a businessman's hat of the era and less of a true fedora. Oddly
enough my Dad's hat is way too small for me to wear. When I was a lad, it fell down over my ears! Now that I'm my Dad's age then, my head is much larger
(7 3/8) than his was. That alone is dumbfounding, as he seemed like a giant when I was a kid!

J C Penney Marathon Ultra Quality. Has 2 3/4 inch bound brim with 1/2 inch edge binding. I first thought the sweatband might be a replacement because it doesn't have a Marathon logo stamp, but I'm convinced this is the original sweatband because the paper tags are attached to it and the bow at the seam is attached and perfect. The price was $8.90, which is a dollar more than Jimmy the Lid's hat on this thread, so my hat may be a little later. Also we have different mfg tags and his liner has colors in it. This is a nice little quality hat, which I suppose is from the 1940's. It has the look and feel of a Lee hat, and a rather good one at that.
