Over 50 wearing leather jackets

Agreed. I think it's also a little funny that when you see an old goat in a leather jacket, chances are that guy has made an effort to stay in healthy condition. It is rare to see an old fat guy in leather. It's like there's a tacit reciprocal agreement that each take (good) care of the other.
Agreed. There are guys who should not wear leather jackets. That’s for sure especially with an A2. They end up looking like an overstuffed sausage. And I see younger guys do this too, not just us old guys.

I'm 66 and wear a leather jacket most days. Here's part of the stash below. I don't consider myself a collector but I'm the current curator of 15 or 20 leather jackets and several nice wools. I yanked about half the stash out of the closet tonight and put them in the pile below. I'm going to trim the herd soon but it's a little tough to get excited about that. A couple of them would fit another person better and a couple of wool jackets are too similar to justify. The rest of 'em though don't eat much and never complain about being in a dark closet so there's a fair chance I'll only cull a half dozen, max. Some have a story to them that means more than the jacket and they'll stay for certain.

On the table is a Lost Worlds leather pea, a black Vanson Model A , a brown Model A, a pretty new black Model B, some Schotts, Dianese (die-a-ness-ay... that always seems awkward to pronounce for some reason), Willis & Geiger, a Brooks, Filson, like that.

If there's a place on this site where a few detail pics of a guy's stash should be placed point it out and I'll take a few shots.

I went by a friend's office today wearing the new Vanson B. Several commented in the room about how much they liked the jacket and I was a little surprised by that. Not sure why. One of the guys had a new Harley jacket and we tried each other's on. That HD jacket was so soft, supple and generously sized that I'm sure it would have ripped off immediately in a slide. It seemed to me like it shouldn't have been sold as riding gear but I don't have to crash in it so I kept that to myself. Sure was soft and comfy though.

One of my favorite winter jackets isn't in the pile. It's a Filson 3/4 length wool; perfect length for a car coat as the end of the jacket stops at the leading edge of the seat so I'm never sitting on that hem bump.

There was nothing about turning 50 that made me want to rethink leather. Not even close.

I spy with my own eye, a Ducati Meccanica Jacket, and maybe a couple of Filson’s!

You win! Go out in the parking lot and pick any vehicle you like.

I've got a really old school Schott in the pile as well that I'd bet a nickel you'll like but only marginally recognize. Primo shape, too.

Not many leather jackets around my way period and rarely the young in them. Universal uniform appears to be sportswear and loungewear but they don’t do any exercise & do lounge around a lot. Local clothes shop full of cheap man made fibre **** ….

Leather jackets seem to be more the preserve of subcultures now, much moreso than was the case in my youth. The smattering of them I see worn by my undergraduates tend far more often to be seen on the young ladies - the guys, less so. Otherwise, in all honesty I think it would be difficult to date purely by fashion alone any photo of my undergraduates or postgraduates since I started teaching in 1999 - or, often, to differentiate the same from a shot of my peers and me as students in the 90s.

Emo’s and young biker types are the predominant youth that wear leather jackets locally ……. and old gits like myself parading around in my Eastmans attire though even the A-1 has been quiet due to the very warm UK weather. Mainly the over 50’s wearing leather jackets in Wiltshire … thousands of them next Weekend with the town bike show which is apparently the biggest free bike event in the UK.
