I recall that my final conclusion after reading this whole thread awhile back was that the degree of dissatisfaction was correlated to the degree of tweaks/customization done.
They shouldn't offer the ability to do so if they cant do it correctly

Out of those 3 I would pick the 3rd one without a doubt, just looks better proportioned + shoulders gussets + mouton is a no brainer for me. And if their sizing chart does not lie then a 10cm drop from pits to waist is SWEET. I'd need an **S though since the XS is pretty massive in the chest.

Hey all, probably an odd question, but its about sizing. Im 170 cm tall, 61.2 kg weight.

Chest: 58 cm
Hem: 50 cm
Shoulder: 54 cm
Sleeve length: 59 cm
Back length: 62 cm

These are the measurements I am using to achieve a slightly oversized and slightly cropped fit like in the photo. Do these make sense? They are loosely based off a denim jacket I like wearing.

It's very hard to tell. Two people can be the same height and weight but have it distributed completely different and I don't know how have you reached those measurements.

IMO the best way would be for you to actually measure a jacket that fits you as you want it to, but then again it seems people have had very mixed results doing so with 5*.

Getting a friend to do a complete measurement of your upper body is the way.

A few people here have actually sent a jacket they like to 5* to be copied or cloned. If I’m not mistaken, all of those experiments have turned out well, with copy pretty much exactly matching the original.

Yep, I've read the same, but at the same time I'm unsure of how realistic that is for someone who is not already a "leatherhead".

As in, think about it: Is someone going to look for a jacket within their reach (mall, online shops, whatever), find their desired fit (in this case, oversized) to then just ship it to Pakistan so they copy it and end up paying a (relatively) hefty price on it?

At 170 tall, unless you have an extra long torso, imho cropped jacket territory should be in the mid 50’s to upper 50’s tops.

Also it would help to know body type stuff like do you have broad shoulders or are rail thin or slim with slight belly, monkey or tx arms, short or long torso, etc.

Also would help to know what jacket design you’re looking at.
Im looking at the A2. Im slim fit build, no belly but not overly muscular either. Shoulders are broad, I have a V build.

this is the jacket im basing it off of (size XS), and it ends exactly at my hip. The measurements i posted were from it, and then a few CMs were added.

i forgot to mention as well, i want the sleeves to be roomy since i like wearing hoodies under my jackets. I'll have to mention that i suppose.

Imho, bombers are rather easy to oversize, and being 5* I think the smarter gamble would be to just order a stock one a couple sizes larger, than having to deal with the wait, back and forward emails and potential for mistakes of having them do it custom.

I bet if you at their size chart for that model, there’s gonna be a bigger stock size that’ll be close to the measurements you have in mind.
I dont want the jacket to go lower than my hips though, which would occur if i simply go up sizes, no?

Very true. One of the only reasons I would consider doing this would be for instance if I had a denim type three that I absolutely loved the fit of and wanted it made for me in leather. Other than that relatively specific situation I can’t imagine much reason to clone a jacket.

Yes indeed, I guess my safest suggestion would be to keep the customization to a minimum.

For example in your case, I would pick the bigger size that is closest to the shoulders and chest measurements that I want, and just ask for a custom shorter body length on that bigger size.

And I wouldn’t worry about the sleeves because a) you also want them bigger/wider, and b) ribbed cuffs will make them stack on your forearms instead of covering your hands even if they’re a bit longer than the ideal measurement you have in mind.

That way you’re only asking 5* for 1 single customization on a stock size pattern vs going all custom, it’ll likely be cheaper and faster too.
Very true, thanks!

The only thing that worked for me with 5* and a very nice type three in leather they made me.

I thought I remembered that you had done this but I wasn’t sure. I think there was also someone who had a cloth jacket that their daughter was very fond of cloned in leather For her as a present.

Haha, fair enough. I actually have a FiveStar goatskin jacket in black. I really like the fit, but yeah, the leather isn’t anything special.

I also have an Aero Vincenza in black, beautiful hide, and it just keeps getting better with age.

So you think FiveStar’s black horsehide will be a letdown?
Do they have anything close to Vincenza, something shiny and waxy that ages well?
