Five Star Leather Jackets

I'll probably get around to posting pics soon but I was sceptical of fivestar based on some of the reviews and the low price. However I liked the look of the pull up leather and bought a second hand A2 in pull up from Ebay. It was actually really good, I think possibly because they've actually hit pretty close the bullseye on a couple of contract jacket patterns at least and I had one of them - the Star Sportswear. The ebay jacket didn't fit so sold it on and had it remade in my size in Pull Up. Jacket arrived and was spot on. I'm a 42 usually and their 44" with two inches extra back length was a perfect fit. I left it on top of another A2 in Russett Vicenza and I'll be damned if they didn't look pretty similar. Total cost was £320 for the fivestar, leather was really lovely, fit was perfect first time but admittedly I knew I only had to go up a size and add two inches in the back so not a complicated order. The stitching all round is good, only very slight negative was the cotton liner doesn't quite feel like my Aeros or Eastman A2s, if feels a little thinner.

My tips for getting an A2 from fivestar:

Go up one size from your shirt size.
Keep customisation simple, I asked for standard size plus 2" in rear length and they nailed it.
Go for the pull-up, closest leather I can compare it to is like a slightly softer Russett Vicenza.
Im about to ask for a bunch of custom measurements so wish me luck zaddy

Has anyone out there had a shearling trucker from Fivestar? I absolutely love one I’ve seen from Cockpit USA but the $1800 is way more than I’d like to spend. Looking at these from FiveStar. Most likely looking to go custom size, V shaped body with 42 chest at 5’8

I didn't have a trucker jacket, but my own creation. The shearling was very modest compared to my Aeros. The leather was half as thick as the Aeros. The fur was not very dense. Of course, it may be that they have since improved their shearling.
They didn't remove the fur from the chest pockets, so they were purely decorative. It looks similar with the trucker jacket.

Good to know! And disappointing lol. It keeps looking like it’s best to just save up and buy once cry once.

I don't think anyone says that they are incapable of making a good jacket for the price. Its just that its so hit or miss that you're better off just getting something else.
I’m going to pull mine out again this weekend and give it another thorough look. I’ve had some tremendous buys at the same price with vintage and even near new GB, Perfectos, Vansons, BG, Langlitz, etc. so it’s nothing personal. There are choices. Each makes their own choices and we did take the time and spend the dang money to test the work.

I got off pretty cheap. I got two jackets and one I still wear. The other is garbage.

I went through six 5 stars. Wife finally went out and bought me two Eastman Rough Wear A2s. A 27752 and a 1401-P. She broke me from buying 5 star jackets for good. Got rid of all of the 5 stars. I collect original G1s now. Mostly in my size and all wearable.
Mainly into vintage flight jackets.

For the price five star puts out a decent jacket. There are not very accurate on the repos of military contracts. Close but not close in some details. Their leather is what the big time repo makers were using 30 years ago. Leaves a lot to be desired as far as looks go. Heavily pigmented leather that just doesn’t have life like aniline dyed leather does.

But if that is your price range they put out a decent jacket for the price they charge.
