I know we have a lot of international travelers and residents here, but I rarely get to leave the US (occasionally Canada).

So this trip to Melbourne at the end of November was incredibly special to me, to a surprise 50th birthday party for a cousin on a side of the family I have only recently reconnected with after 28 years. It happened to overlap with my birthday as well.

Of course the first thing I did upon arrival is head to a hat shop and buy an Akubra locally. This is their “Leisure Time” and here are some gratuitous photos of my time there. It rained most of the week, and to no surprise, the hat held up fantastically.

All of this solo travel and long (very comfortable) plane rides were big personal achievements for me, and I’m glad I have the hat as a physical token of the journey.

The Leisure Time is a great hat. My wife has three of them. I go to Melbourne every year. Do you recall the name of the shop?

Perfect hat for what sounds like an amazing trip! Also a big fan of the cat rocking a shark tooth hat band. :)

Great new additions posted recently... and quite an interesting haul, Bob. I see that four digit tape from time to time. I've often thought it was an identifier relating to a hat being brought in for renovation, but that is just a guess. The black pencil curl looks like an oldie to me.

Thanks Alan! I’m wondering if the sweatband is a transplant from somewhere along it’s well-worn lifespan.

Yes! Grand Hatters. The guy was super nice and fun to talk hats with. I also went to City Hatters and almost bought another— they had the bluegrass green campdrafts but I was traveling light and chose not to purchase a second one! Struck up a lovely conversation with the young ladies working the shop.

Woo Hoo! the new Resistol is here! Been kinda under the weather for a couple days so I really needed this lift. Still need to do some brushing, steaming, and ironing on a couple minor wrinkles, but overall this lid is in really nice shape AND IT FITS PERFECTLY. Wind trolly cord is in good shape as are all the tags. Sweatband is in perfect shape and really supple. I love non western Resistols . Only real blemish is residue from an old price sticker on the sweat
Im thrilled

Got some steaming and ironing done on the new Resistol so the wrinkle up front is gone. Got it snugged down on a brim board for steam and iron. Snaps up and down nicely. Snugged up the wind trolley cord and got it stitched in place. Ready for the coffee run tomorrow. Super comfortable hat. I love new hats that dont need much work.

I agree. Those non-western Resistol's are great hats.

Leinen-Peuch hatter 'Beaver' in black from Paris.
Lovely thick felt on this one, no steam needed. Great proportions also. Unfortunally no label inside. Overall in a good condition, only 1 spot on the leather sweatband. Nevertheless, love this one!

Modern Panizza panamahat. Overall a nice weave. Don't see Panizza's panamahats very much. Brimsize 7cm, so good sunprotection.

Two nice new finds, Marcel.

The Panizza Panama will definitely look snazzy during the summer.

Had a nice little surprise today. I had picked up this nice little Orvis furfelt hat for a local fellow but its too large for him ( the sm/med/ lg sizing on newer hats can be problematic). Anyway the mailman dropped it off this morning ( total of three days from order to here!). Its actually in pretty much new condition and fits my head just great. Didnt plan on it for me to keep, but its too large for the intended fellows head, and it fits me .. so its a keeper
