is there a single website or collection of websites (other than eBay) for finding vintage buttons? I have numerous vintage garments, both military and civilian, missing their buttons. Searching eBay is fun but time-consuming and often fruitless. Any suggestions?

Recently I found a 50s era pea coat in great shape overall, except for some blotches of a tacky substance (seems like pine tar) on the front. Any suggestions for cleaning that won't damage the coat? Thanks!

Can anyone tell if this pair of US Army breeches is from the WW2 era? Before? After? There are no markings of any kind inside. The pockets are HBT material. I couldn't find them listed in From Doughboy to GI The wool is just like WW2 era Ike jackets I've had. Any ideas?

It measures about 5" X 7" -- I was thinking it might be missing a securing bolt or latch. Any clue what the metal ring would be for?

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking "hippie" at first too -- but the look, feel (stiff with some brittleness on the strap), and the older smell of the leather seems to me to pre-date the 60s/ 70s. I was actually thinking teens or twenties as well.
