Thanks. I realised when researching colour combinations that charcoal was not that popular and I really did not want to go with a black ribbon. When I spoke to Art about having a dark chocolate brown ribbon, instead of charcoal or black, he was not too sure until he "dressed" it for colour...
Thanks for the feedback everyone which has all been useful. I reckon I could get away with a slightly taller crown without me looking odd to someone in the street. Back to the kettle and a bit of re-bashing!
:D
Thanks! That explanation does help ... err; then I thought hang-on! Did you mean measure the jawline to chin, ie. from below the ear to the centre of the chin, or was it a vertical measurement from chin to where the brim lines up around the eye brows?
For my wife and myself, the 10cm crown...
Greetings fellow hatters!
Apologies if this has been covered in another thread - which I obviously failed locate - but I am trying to find out if there is a recommended crown height in relation to person height, face type or occasion? What is the generally accepted as too high or low, or is it...
New York Times article
Not sure if anybody has seen this but a good article in the New York Times about the rising popularity of the felt fedora hat.

Today it was chucking it down in London and my wife got herself a hat from James Lock & Co. A couple of hours later in a shoe shop, one of the assistants complimented both of us on our hats. She was very chuffed and so was I in my Federation IV.
So many stingy trilbies about in London this...
That is terribly sad. The poor children could not determine that the hat was of such quality that it was not worth stealing. It's only their upbringing to blame and some shame on parents and society for not educating children on determining quality and style! :)
Ok, finally managed to take self portraits on my mobile phone so the quality is iffy. The Fed IV is in in "training" so the brim looks flatter than usual. The lighter coloured hat is my first one. A huge difference!
