I find it sad they had no interest in the Air Commando legacy considering when originally formed they were basically recruiting the best of the best even from other branches to fill their ranks. I have some photos my dad took while on a Dragon Ship as they were performing a pass mowing down a...
Weird I've never had that happen with one of my Akubras before. When my Feds came and one for a friend came I just beat the tar out of them with a wooden spoon, popped them back out and shaped them (and my dark brown has a razor edge front crease). I've never had the felt "crack" like that.
Yeah EA is looking better and better and they do have the Coolabah in my size and in Sandtone in stock (at least it isn't listing a 3 month wait). Also shipping is only $12
Thanks for the advice guys, Everything Australian is great, I love the fact they list the brim and crown height. I'm looking at the Coolabah on on there right now that comes with the Croc hat band. Also Looking at the Jackaroo on HD. Anyone have either of these they could post some pics up...
Hey guys I was wondering where you all get your Akubras? I have dealt with Hats Direct before and always had great luck, but there selection is kinda limited at the moment it seems. I'm looking for something that would be more of one of their "country" hats for wearing in the field (when I...
I actually have one of these hats sitting in my Dad's old trunk. He was an Air Force Air Commando during the mid 60's in Vietnam. I also have a bunch of old photos of him and the boys he took over there. He said most of the time the guys would wear those hats or cowboy hats, jeans, and a BDU...
Best not say that to some of the folks I know. Guys that are true modern day stockmen that where straw/palm hats when actually out doing real work. Sure there are plenty that wear felt hats, but then most have both and the straws are the regular "work" hats.
I have worn my Federation in everything from bone chilling cold to blazing hot temps (110+). I will say it gets warm at 95+ but not intolerable. I wear my fed regularly with jeans, t-shirt and a long sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up a bit.
I do still want to get one of the Akubra...
I thought it was hilarious the other day when one of my profs pulled a pith helmet out of his desk and plopped it down on his head before telling us we were becoming explorers as we started covering taxonomy in bio lab.
Thanks rrog. When I first got it I was worried I wouldn't be able to get a good shape out of it, but that is what I managed on my first try. Its amazing how pliable the body gets when wet. It is completely different then the dry body, the dry is flexible and "light" feeling. However when you...
Well here is my recent Sunbody I picked up. I've been doing quite a bit of paleontology work lately and I'll be doing a ton of work this spring in summer in some pretty harsh sun. Decided I needed a new lid and here it is. Got an open crown 5 3/4 inch crown and a 3 1/2 inch brim. Put it...
I'll give you a hint....
"Some people call me a space cowboy. Some people call me the gangster of love. Some people call me..."
I have been tormented by this connection ever since I was little.
Yep I'm at EOU still, I'll more that likely finish my undergrad stuff here then do grad work up in Washington or something. I basically spend all of my time in Badgley Hall (Chem, Math, Bio and Labs this term).
I think I've heard of that prof you are talking about she is one of the Anth...
