    Anybody Else Collect Sewing Machines?

I had to legitimize my collection by hanging a shingle. I went from collector to part time repair guy about 2 years ago.

    Vintage Fire Extinguishers

I have a Pyrene like this in the basement. Any ideas on how to safely discard the contents after discharge?

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

I most deffinately wear a trenchcoat in foul weather. I see it as a garment that while stylish, has the more practical aspects of keeping my clothes clean and keeping me warm. I find that I do well without using the liner most times. As for how it's worn? The nastier the weather, the more I...

    Atomizer question

I am thinking of switching from a spray bottle to an atomizer. I have had issues with clogging, when using oils in a spray bottle. Does anyone know of any known problems associated with the use of oils in an atomizer? My thanks in advance, Spatzkat

The Cleaning Clothes (vintage or other) Thread

If you ladies would pardon the intrusion, I've been following this thread a bit and would like to offer a suggestion for the body odor problem that has been mentioned. While I cannot fully state that it is safe on all fabrics, I use a product called "Natures Miracle." I've successfully used it...

    To Dye or Not?

Good evening everyone, I was curious to see if anyone has had any experience with dying a trench coat? A few years ago I purchased a black, 40 Poly/ 60 Cotton trench coat that has since lost a good bit of luster. The edges of the pockets are beginning to gray a bit as well as the collar. I...

    Turnups (cuffs)

I see non cuffed pants as being mostly casual. When it comes to business or a night on the town, cuffs are the way to go for me. I wouldn't even consider going to a meeting or interview wearing anything less.

    Matching tie & pocket square

Uggggg!!!!! I think I saw that set on the clearance rack at Conway. 7.99 for the whole set in polyester glory with matching links to boot. Pardon me while I slink off to my clothes closet and hide for a while.

    Proper wearing of a belt?

I asked myself the same question for a long time. Then I remembered that I work with leather as a hobby, so why not do it myself? So I quit looking and started making my own. Just takes some playing around to get the dye colors right to match the shoes. I haven't paid for an off the rack belt...

    All things Sewing Machines!

Ok, if you don't mind one of the "fellas" weighing in on this..... I have an abused Singer 95-10 (industrial type) that has been converted to use a motor. I use it weekly and tune it weekly. Even for the abuse and wear, it's still solid mechanically. For most Singers of that vintage, there's...

    Coffee/ Espresso/ other

Call me strange but I grind it by hand and then put it in a french press. No flavorings for me but my Lady does like the Torani syrups to add after the espresso has steeped in the press. It's actually quite nice without the mess of using a machine.

    the face of evil

Ghastly. That style of hat is very popular around here. I cringe nearly every time I see one. Of course I'm not sure if it's the hat itself or the baggy pants strapped below the derriere mixed with a shirt 2 sizes too big. :eusa_doh:

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

While I've been here for some time I don't think I ever posted an intro. Comes with being a champion lurker I suppose... My name is Jim, I'm 35, a collector/refurbisher of early 20th century items. Currently, I live in NYC but will be relocating to Pennsylvania in the near future. I have...
