Thanks, belfastboy. Yes, I've bought a ton of hats off of eBay too, and never had this drastic a discrepancy- that's why I'm asking here, before talking to the seller. I will definitely reach out to her and see if we can work out a solution. I'd be happy to pay return shipping.
I bought a vintage Stetson on eBay. The color was described as “cinnamon”, and the pics showed a nice mid-brown:
The hat is lovely, but in person it’s very definitely NOT the color in the pics, and I don't see how anyone could call it "cinnamon". It's more of a gray or taupe. Here it is in...
I don't mind waiting, if the results are worth it! I know VS from the Art days, but I wasn't clear on where things stand now. I'm guessing this price list is no longer accurate:

I LOVE that idea, and so does my girlfriend. She just checked flights, and it's only $300-$400 for a round trip from NYC to MC. If it weren't for the little matter of the deadly virus we'd be booking now.
Thanks, this looks like a good option.
I've also had people elsewhere suggest JJ Hat Center, here in NYC: https://www.jjhatcenter.com/pages/repair-price-list
It would be nice to avoid shipping, but their prices are so hefty that I'm not sure I'd save anything. I'm also surprised they don't...
Hello again, Fedora Lounge! It's been a while since I popped in, but I used to spend a lot of time here about a dozen years ago. Since then I've acquired more hats, and worn several of them to the point that they need some work.
Back in the day, Optimo was the preferred repair shop, but they...
I'm not usually one for straw. I wear fur felt throughout the summer, even in a heat wave. But I'm going to Colombia in a month, and I hear it's brutally humid and never rains, so I decided to buy something more appropriate.
I ordered the Biltmore Lucca, a hemp milan fedora, from...
Just found another option that might be the way to go:

A bit pricier at $148, but the lenses are a rare 42mm, and there's a guarantee. I've emailed to ask if they're gold filled, as the description is vague.
I haven't checked in here in a while- I banned myself when it became apparent that my fedora collection was getting out of hand.
Since my last visit I've learned that I need glasses, and also that glasses I like are as hard to find as hats I like. I've made do with a vintage-ish modern design...
riothamus, keep in mind that leather sweat bands tend to shrink, especially Akubras. If your Fed is too big now it will probably shrink down to just right after a couple weeks.
When I first started reading the Lounge, two consensus opinions became apparent:
Vintage production hats are far superior to modern production hats.
Beaver is far superior to rabbit or hare.
I suspect I'm not alone in combining these two beliefs into the incorrect assumption that most...
