Current Day Distractions - Teens Suffer From "Facebook Depresssion"

Water is essential to life, but you can drown in it.

I have a facebook, I go on around twice a week just to say hi to friends or family, the games are idiotic, redundant, and irritatingly childish. A wouldn't even flinch if my FB was terminated, I really do not see an extreme need for "social networking", it coops people up in their homes hiding behind a computer screen almost conditioning them tho think that traditional interaction is awkward and taboo. I fear for my generation and those that follow.

Often true; round these parts, though, we often seem to have the inverse when it comes to anything 'modern' though. Occasionally it can become a bit "four legs good, two legs bad".

It is a knee jerk reaction in some cases. Those of us that have been around for a long time have seen some pretty awful products released during our lifetime, we have seen quality drop in a lot of products, we have seen questionable style, misrepresentation of products and ideas. After a while you can get a bit jaded and instead of having an open mind on stuff become a bit protectionist.

Sometimes the past is over romantisized and the present is seen as an intrusion on something more idyllic.

All I know is that there are a lot of things that were promised to be a lot better than how they actually turned out and that tends to make for sceptisism.

It is unfortunate that something like Facebook can become an unhealthy obsession or even an addiction.

The "experts" also predicted a wave of depression when long running television programs were ending too. We survived the hype.

These teens are depressed because they perceive that their peers are rejecting them. This isn't new, it's not even vintage. It's older than our species.

All I can think of is Madame Bovary, whiling away her life on a fantasy of what she can't have, based on the appearances that other people project. Facebook is just a new method of exhibiting the same scenarios that have been around since Helen decided the grass was greener in Troy.
