I got some new magazines. The "Unterwegs" is an East German (GDR) travel magazine, 1959 issues.
The other one, a 1955 issue of a West German family magazine, has quite a few patterns in it:

(Pregnancy wardrobe that doesn't show any sign of pregnancy)

And I finally found a magazine holder. I was looking for such a thing for a long time, and this one's in perfect condition.

I like these pants, but I love the package! Can anyone tell from the design if it's pre- or post-1960?

Wahine, congratulations on the finds. I have a few numbers of "Für alle" and quite like their patterns. And yours has some beautiful dirndls in it!

Thank you Katinka! Did you ever try one of those patterns? I must admit I'd like to try it, but I'm not too wild about tracing one of those wild "map patterns"
(reminds me of those hidden cam TV shows when they ask people in the street where to go and show them a sewing pattern instead of a map...

I didn´t do any of the "Für dich" patterns yet, but I´ve used other magazine patterns from the 30s, 40s and 50s, basically they are all similar. They are a bit confusing first but you get an overview of all the parts you need for the clothing and the tiny symbols on every single part that make the instructions. It´s managable but takes some time. I do my tracing with the pattern and tracing paper spread on the floor, otherwise I find it very confusing

Her "flip" hairstyle and bow are post 1960. I'd say 1960 - 1965.

Katinka, I always sketch my Golden Rule patterns on the floor, so that's no new thing for me. I even got a "knee pillow" or how ever you call it, esp. for that purpose.

Thank you IAdoreFilmNoir, I was guessing the same thing but wasn't sure.

Oh, great idea! I always do my patterns on the floor too and my knees always hurt. I'm going to get something similar. Can't believe I didn't think of it!

Those "knee pillows" are usually being sold in the gardening departments (at least here in Germany).

Katinka, my Golden Rule is the 1956 edition. I also have a pre-war edition (1942?) on my hands. It's my aunt's and there are even a few supplements.

Let me know if you want any copies/scans...

No seriously, does it contain any pattern for pants (not pyjamas)? You are so lucky to have two, I can´t even afford one with the ridiculous prices on ebay. Have been lusting over a 40s issue for 2 years now

I most likely wouldn't have them if I'd have to pay for them. Both were inherited. I was soo lucky to have the 56 edition plus one supplement and always looking for supplements or even another main book. One day, when I was chattering with my aunt, she said: "I have a book that's just like the one you told me about" and she pulls that 42 edition with several supplements from her book shelf.
It's unbelievable what they charge even for the supplements on ebay!! :eeek:

I'll look up the book for pants and let you know what I find.

Found these paperdolls in our local DAV. They aren't vintage (they were printed in 1999). From left to right: Rita Hayworth, Gene Tierney, and Lana Turner. Gene was sitting on top behind glass and I couldn't see the others but I recognized her immediately and knew the others would be just as neat! I wasn't disappointed!

This lovely (50s?) hat from an antique mall. I saw it originally on display in a booth during a sale and passed it up. I regretted it and went back the following weekend to find it was gone so I went home kicking myself thinking some other lucky gal had snatched it up. About three weeks later we hit up the store again during a sale and it was back on display! So I bought it and plan on wearing it to a friends wedding. There are only a couple small, pin sized holes in the organza, but it is stained all over the material and on the satin and velvet rose. It looks like water stains. Anyone have some tips on how to clean it? The hat itself is straw so I don't want to shrink it or mishape it. I also don't know how best to wear it? Straight across on top? Tilted to the side and over the eye a little?

Very nice find! I think it´s from the 40s and supposed to be worn on top of the head like this. Maybe even a bit on the back of your head like the girl on the left in this picture does. But I have no idea what to do about the stains

Edit: maaaaan, hats and heads, very confusing
