Hi everyone! My name's Nadia, and I recently just discovered these boards and have been lurking around for the past while. You all seem extremely nice and just my kind of people, so I thought I'd finally go ahead and introduce myself. I'm 22 years old, and have always been a fan of oldies music, black and white film, and vintage clothing. Problem being 22 though is that it's incredibly hard to find other like-minded people my age :( So, I'm hoping I can make some friends on here with others who appreciate past eras as much as I do! I also haven't quite had the courage yet to leap into vintage wear the way you ladies so courageously have (you all look lovely btw!) so I'm hoping chatting with you all will also give me that encouragement I need to finally dress how I want. You all seem like a fun bunch so I'm looking forward to becoming a more active member! That is, if y'all don't mind a newcomer :)

Hi Nadia, I'm Nancy. I joined this group when I was 22 like you. I am 26 now. Any way like you I have always loves vintage and when I joined I wasn't quiet ready to go all out vintage, this place is great and hopefully you will find a way to be comfortable going out in vintage. The ladied here are awesome and super helpful

Thanks everyone, you all do seem truly lovely :) I am struggling a bit to find that confidence to just be myself, and go against the mainstream status quo. I hate to admit that because it's such a great and awesome thing to be a unique individual. So I think the Fedora Lounge will prove to be a very inspirational place for me. I'm really excited to start posting more often and getting to know you all better! :)

Welcome Nadia! It is always great to welcome newcomers, especially another Canadian one! You will find people here all share the same love of the golden era/vintage but how we express that day to day really varies. Some people dress full on vintage all day every day, and some hardly ever do, but still love to come here to share or learn or just to chat. My suggestion if you are trying to work up the nerve to start dressing vintage is to start with accessories. Try wearing more vintage Jewellry to start. It really doesn't need to be all or nothing. I have a lot of vintage brooches that i wear on my modern sweaters. A lot of current trends in fashion are very much vintage inspired, so it would really be quite easy right now to kind of ease into it by mixing actual vintage pieces with modern. In fact there are whole threads here devoted to "Vintagey" items. but at the end of the day, the most important thing to is be yourself, and HAVE FUN!

It's always good to come across another Canadian! Thank you so much for your kind, thoughtful, and helpful response :) I really appreciate it! I've bought a few vintage-inspired dresses, and I can hardly wait for the weather to warm up so I can begin wearing them and ease my way in to it. I'll be sure to post some pictures too! I love looking through all the outfit posts on the forum, there sure are some snazzy dressers on here ;) it's very inspiring!

Welcome ladies,
When I first started dressing vintage I found the Fedora Lounge in 2006. I knew some where in the universe there had to be like minded people like me.
Thanks to the Fedora Lounge I learned so many things on how to style myself vintage wise.
Plus I also learned a couple of the ladies here also have blogs. This got me thinking and I was slowly becoming board with myself. So, I searched the web for 1960s blogs and found Andi B goode's blog http://www.andibgoode.com/ If I was not following Andi B Goode's blog I would've never found Vixen Vintage's blog http://www.vixen-vintage.com/ Vixen Vintage Rocks! I was now armed with a new since of knowledge. Reading Vixen Vintage I found myself saying, OOO! I can totally wear this or I can style my hair like this too. Hooray!
An other equally fantastic blog is Atomic Red Head http://atomicredhead.com/ dedicated to glory that is mid-century style, from the clothes to the furnishings.

Here are also a couple of my favorite youtube beauty and vintage hair styling channels.
*Lisa Freemont Street http://www.youtube.com/user/LisaFreemontStreet Adore her vidoes.
*Elegant Musings http://www.youtube.com/user/elegantlyamused I would've never learned about estate sales had I not watched her videos.
*A Vintage Vanity http://www.youtube.com/user/KoontzFan2 I found a gold mine! when I found this ladies vidoes.
* Diary of a vintage Girl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7mKQOvqqds Best victory rolls tutorial in the history of ever!

The best thing about dressing vintage for me is it allows me to be free and empowered.I feel like a super heroine when I dress vintage. I sometimes tell myself I am so awesome and pretty, cause I am. We vintage ladies are super awesome.

Thank you so much for sharing those blogs and videos, Nathalie! Gosh, I have a feeling I'm gonna be spending the entire day looking through blog posts now lol and those videos are great too! I haven't quite mastered vintage hairdos yet, so those tutorials are definitely helpful.

Whenever I try talking to my friends about my love for vintage things, they just stare back at me with dumbfounded expressions as though I were speaking gibberish lol so it really is great to be able to talk with other people who share my interests and don't think I'm crazy or stuck in a time capsule :p

Oh and I absolutely love how you summed up how it feels to dress vintage! I completely agree with you; I don't think there's anything more empowering than embracing your femininity and not being afraid to express your individuality. I can hardly wait to become a vintage lady myself :D though with the crazy amount of snow we got here in Canada yesterday, my dresses may have to wait a while before they can make an appearance :(
