What powder, foundation..

Hello, my name is Pam and I'm a cosmetic whore. Seriously, this is my makeup case - a full-size machinist's chest. And trust me, it is bulging!



I have at least 10 foundations that I rotate between. For everyday wear, I like a light and sheer foundation, so I use either tinted moisturizer or mineral foundation. My favorite tinted moisturizers are Laura Mercier, Stila illuminating, Kiehls, and Sephora. For mineral makeup I like Bare Escentuals and actually, Elf! Super cheapie, but their mineral line is very comparable to Bare Escentuals, and you cannot beat the price. I also have a Lancome mousse foundation that I like for heavier coverage, and a couple of dual-finish powder foundations (Lancome Dual Finish, Laura Mercier, and MAC Studio Fix). I usually apply those with a kabuki brush, or sometimes a damp sponge if I want slightly heavier coverage. I think powder foundations are a nice modern choice if you like the 1940s style pancake foundations. For a really cheap one, I like Rimmel Stay Matte.

A key for me in getting the flawless 1940s look is a good primer. I used to be all about Smashbox Photo Finish, but my absolute all-time favorite primer of all time is actually L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base. It is a great drugstore find and the jar lasts forever because you need so little product. It is oil-free and I find it really helps keep my skin matte.

Powder: Coty Airspun is my #1 choice. I love everything about it! I also really like Clinique blended powder as a close second, and I use MUFE's HD powder and Guerlain Meteorites as "add-ons." I use the MUFE HD powder very sparingly, under my regular powder. I find that it really softens lines and helps mattify my skin, but if you use too much or don't blend properly, it reflects white in photographs and can look odd. I have used Bare Escentuals mineral veil and Elf’s mineral powder, but they just don’t seem to last as well on my skin.

OT: You can buy machinist's chests at most hardware stores, or anywhere online. They're all over ebay!

I would advise against buying a used one. First off, the "good" brands (like Gerstner) are going to be prohibitively expensive - as in starting around $500 for one in decent condition. Also most of them will have held actual tools and will probably be greasy, dirty, and/or have a really funky odor inside. Not where I'd want to store my makeup!

My engineer husband bought it for me last Christmas as a surprise. It isn't super heavy-duty, so it wouldn't be advisable if you're really planning to load it with heavy tools and carry it around an industrial shop, but it is perfect for makeup and beauty items! I *love* mine. The drawers are the perfect depth for most cosmetic items, and the smaller upper drawers have removable dividers that are great for narrow items like pencils or mascara. The top section with the mirror is large & deep, I use it for storing my backup or large items.

I have some interior pictures somewhere, I'll see if I can find them to post if anyone is interested.

Lowe's also usually has similar ones in stock about once a year for around $100-$150.

No.. I have just plain regular hardware store in my area.. but, in October, theres gonna be a Beauty Fair, so I'll look there..

^ I actually looked at one of those cases for my makeup! The only thing I didn't like was that on most of them, the bottom area is a large open expanse, and I need more small compartments. I had a smaller train case before and I really loved it. I still use it when we travel.

Today I'm wearing Boots No. 7 Lifting & Firming foundation, first time I've tried it. Coty Airspun powder on top. So far I like the combination, but am anxious to see how it wears through the day.

hello =] I've always used loads of different brands trying to find one to suit my dry, sensitive and very light skin i finally find Jacky Oats from Lush :] its really great coverage and doesn't melt off in the heat, !

Colorescience spf, a sad concealer kit , Besame compact powder

I am crazy about Maybelline's Fit Me Shine Free Foundation Stick right now. I keep bragging about it to all my friends, but the thought of a stick foundation puts them off. It gives a sheer, but even coverage which is perfect for my day to day life. I still need a little concealer under my eyes and on the odd blemish. It does not break out my finicky skin and, though I am usually the palest in any foundation line, this one actually comes one shade fairer. The best part is how easy it is to put on. I let my moisturizer sit a moment, then swipe three lines on either cheek, two on my forehead, one down my nose, and one across my chin and just rub it all in. No mess on my counter.

I always use Coty Airspun in Muted Beige, although I have found that NYC makes an almost as great loose powder for $2.99, but the colors are very limited.
