Tanker Jackets?

.... I did the same wash/dry with a Goodwear Tanker. I wish I would have kept it and had it altered but it was too big for me overall. Now THAT was an accurate repro!!! GW does not make them as a regular sale item.
Thanks again for selling it to me.
My ATF tanker is a nice jacket, but the GW is my go to.
Too bad John isn't offering them as part of the GW line....but given the time it takes him to make one, the economics just aren't there for him.

I have the WWII Impressions Tanker jacket, in my opinion it is the best available (apart from Buzz Rickson, which has a lining that is too lightweight). The Buzz jackets are too short for me, so the WWII Impressions worked for me wonderfully.
.

So you mean that even the regular WWII Impressions jacket is longer than the Buzz equivalent?

No, and I am sorry that comment is a little misleading. I am 6'3" tall. Buzz Rickson repros are too short for me, and the standard WWII Impressions jacket is too short for me as well. Although they fit fine at first (before being washed /wet) once the fabric length shrinks the standard length ones I find too short on me.

I have examined Buzz replicas, and the long length WWII Impressions jackets, but it has been some time since I tried on a standard length WWII Impressions jacket. I can't compare one to the other; I was only commenting on them in comparison to the long length one I purchased.

To get actual measurements, one would need to get the jacket measurements from the manufacturer or retailer.

Always want a Tank jacket, but most repros are not fit me as I am a small guy. The Buzz, Mccoy repro may do the job perfect, but I can not convince myself to spend that amount money on it.

The tanker is a very loose fitting jacket with action back. If you want something similar but slim fitting, you should take a look at the 37J1b. You should also check out the Yahoo Auction Japan. I just bought another brand new Rainbow Country A-2 for 90% of the price of a Bill Kelso even after a 10% proxy fee. There are a few second hand Buzz and RM tankers. I got my Buzz tanker brand new there for USD 200 or GBP125 after 10% proxy fee. My second hand Pherrows Tanker costs only 10000yen but that was a year ago when the exchange rate was not as favourable.

Blackadder, you are lucky to be in Asia, for us in Europe, we need to pay the import custom and VAT as well. It used to be better as here in the UK, they only did spot checks; nowadays, they pretty much stop and charge for almost everything.

I may give WWII Impression a try and see.

Can't you just have them sent to HK first?;) Incidentally, how does one calculate the custom duty? Is it only on the value above the relief of GBP135 (e.g. value GBP145, pays duty on GBP15) or you have to pay the whole amount if the value is over GBP135 i.e. duty on GBP145. Haven't been back to England for almost 20 years. Damn bank even closed my accounts for non-activity awhile back.

Well, that is my plan, just ask them to send it to my relatives in HK. Vice versa, my old bank account in HK has now been frozen, and I have to pay a fee to reactivate it, in person. Anyway, that is just one way for the bank to strip our hard earn money.

But it has to go to UK in the end, no matter where it comes from, they will charge you

Not really, if it is part of your clothings for you trip.

I see these are charged by the shipping company for filing the declaration, no?

Not exactly, it is charged by the UK Custom, I think it is in fact called the administration fee, something like 14quids. I got hit for a very cheap item which just exceeded the 19pounds tax free limit. They used to charge custom on large expensive electronic items such as cameras or mobile phones, but looks to me that Cameron is taking the advantage of overseas overseas shopping. Honestly, I have no problem buying local, just that either the UK prices are marked so high or you simply cannot get them locally here.

I think if they really want to make more money they really should stop every single car coming from the channel tunnel or Dover and start charging for the alcohol they these people bring in.

Thats different, I thought what he means was send to HK first, and some one in HK send it to you, in that case, you need pay it right?

The handling fee varies I think, I've been charged more than 20 for a jeans I bought from Japan...

That's just ridiculous. An indirect way to raise the duty. Well, I am charged VAT too if I buy from Aero or BK.

That should include the admin charge + 20% VAT?

From the HMRC website

If you order or purchase goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you have to pay:
Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135
import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £15
Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under.
If you're receiving a gift from outside the EU, then you have to pay:
Excise Duty on any alcohol or tobacco products
Customs Duty and import VAT is payable if the value of the gift exceeds £36

This has been debated a while ago here. Aero/Eastman are not deducting VAT for overseas orders because they claim that they are trying to 'subsidise' local orders. I think they are just trying to make more money or they are just plain lazy to do export VAT exempt form.

No, on the letter I received, it says clear that the handling fee is £22, and the custom+vat is £8...

That sounds awfully like we are ripping off the rich foreigners to subsidise the local poor. They should think of a better excuse. Lol.
