No worries - they do come up on eBay though - I have a grey one from early 50's, never been worn for $80, bought a couple more as well that I've since sold.

Also check out the classifieds here at the lounge from time to time. The hat in my avatar is a Bluegrass Whippet I bought from one of our friends at the Lounge.

I was looking out for a nice Whippet for about 12 months before I got my first, patience is a good thing sometimes - not that I've ever been accused of having any!

David is right take your time vintage Fedora's in your size (which is also by size). Takes time and MONEY
Especially if you want a popular style like a Whippet. Like David said you can go custom and get your whippet style hat real easy.

I really love this hat, too bad I missed with the sizing. It is a size 7 1/2" if anyone has one smaller and would like to trade

I just bought one and it appears to be a good deal at the current price and discounts (139.00 shipped) . I am having a little issue with the fit on mine.

Thanks, I too thought it a pretty good deal right now. Don't particularly like hearing about a fitting problem. Is it running slightly larger or smaller than what you thought it should? Recently I purchased a Biltmore Presidential size 7 3/8 and the size was right on the money. Was going to order the same in a Whippet. Whada ya think?

I think it runs larger. My head measures 22 5/8 and they said get the 7 3/8 , which measures 23 inches).
I should have gotten the 7 1/4. Since i have to return, I am going get a refund and not try another one. Too bad there is postag einvolved or I would sell you mine! I got it Wednesday and here Iam sending it back Friday. Kind of disappointed.
I used to live in WV also.

There's not a good hat shop near me in Parkersburg. If there was I'd go try some on. Nearest is Columbus or possibly Kelley's Men's Shop in Charleston. But I now see a coupon for Hats in the Belfry for possibly another Biltmore? We'll see....... thanks again!

I think you were badly advised.

7 1/4 x pi = 22.78 inches which is approx 22 3/4, which is roughly your head size, 7 3/8 is 23.17, well over 23 inches. I must admit it's much easier in cm!

I think you're probably right. I was checked by someone in a hat shop and pretty sure I'm a 7 3/8. Now my question is this... what makes the Whippet such a desirable hat? Why so popular by so many? Is it simply due to being a classic style?

Okay. Now I'm getting confused here. I always thought that a 22 3/4 was a 7 1/4 too. But, according to this hat size chart, it says 23 inches for a 7 1/4. I'm getting ready to order a couple of hat blocks, (an inch wider, that is, to compensate for the sweat). So, which is correct for a 7 1/4, 22 3/4 or 23 inches, (23 3/4, 24 inches, hat block size)?.....Here's the size chart....

I believe this has been discussed before.Memory tells me that there were several different size charts used over the years.
