Do You Match Jacket Color and Clothing?

I swore there was a thread on this topic but I couldn't find it.

I am a bit color blind and have no color matching sense so I need some help. Do you think it is at all important to match the leather jacket color to the rest of what you are wearing? All my jackets are black but much of my wardrobe is shades of brown. Brown pants, shoes and a black leather on top?

Am I making too much of it?

I try to. I'm an earthy colors kind of guy, so I prefer to wear those. Olive greens and earth toned browns are usually my color pattern. However, I'm thinking of breaking that up and adding some grey and tans to my wardrobe in 2015.

IMO a black leather jacket can go with just about anything and nothing wrong with a black and brown combo; I do it all the time, particularly with khaki and black. Maybe one of the fashion police will have a different a viewpoint. [huh]

For leather dark brown is by far the most versatile color.
A black jacket with brown shoes on the other hand is not ideal IMO.

I probably didn't think this through and concur with the above statement. I generally match shoes and belts, and if wearing a black jacket will generally match all those together. Not always though but usually.

I don't wear brown jackets with black boots but often do wear a black jacket with brown boots since majority of my boots are not black.

I usually try to match the shoes with the coat. Sometimes though I will wear black boots with a brown jacket as my couple pairs of good boots for snow are black and most jackets are brown. The dark goat leather in brown is usually what I will wear with the black boots for snow.

I agree... I mixmatch blacks/browns all the time -- jackets, belts, wallets, watch straps & boots... Live a little... "Think outside the box"

Both my leather jackets are black, so I wear 'em with black or brown shoes.

But never with white ones.

I wear my brown deerksin G&B and goat Cooper A-2's with brown shoes or boots, but with my reddish tan Vanson Enfield anything goes! Very versatile color.

Sometimes I just don't think/worry about it....my jackets are either sage, brown or black (nylon, nomex or leather). Pants khaki or dark blue denim...shoes/boots black or brown...jumpers Navy, grey or black. At my wedding my Father said I'd committed some cardinal color sins :-D

I always match my leather jackets to shoes/belts. I've been known to match my wallet as well, when I have the time.

I always try and match. Anal I guess. Brown jacket with brown, red, O.D. Green and regular green. Black with jeans, blacks, greys and alike. I will wear a brown boots, mostly Chukkas with jeans and a black jacket. I sometimes wear an O.D. Army issue scarf with a black jacket but that's an exception.

I normally wear jeans, with brown shoes (redwing 9111). This combination will not change in most of the year. The jackets I am usually wearing are denim, russet or seal leather jacket and M65. So, not a match.

Being totally color blind, this has been both helpful and entertaining. Not being able to see it, I had not given it much thought. I just try to put my shoes and belts in the same tone.

My wife made Garanimal tags (remember the animal-coded color matching system for kid's clothes?) for my ties, suits, and dress pants. She got tired of either getting up early before work or spending time putting my clothes together thenight before. It's great, but I am completely screwed if I ever lose the sheet with all of the listings.

This "handicap" also makes me keep things really simple as far as colors go. I mean, what do you do with cordovan?

Because of my colorblindness, until maybe two years ago ,( I am 50), I always wore simple colors, blacks, greys, blue denim, navy. Never brown or other colors. This was to avoid confusion. Now I am branching out and have had to be more careful.

It has helped that I am an amatuer artist and learned the color wheel!

It's also always a good idea to take a look in the mirror before leaving the house. Sadly, not many Americans do this
