Stetson Fedora Hat

Hi, I'm trying to get some information on a hat. It's a Stetson brand hat and it was given to my Grampy in the 70's by his cousin. My grandfather had never worn it, it doesn't look like it's been worn, or at least hadn't been worn frequently. I'm trying to figure out what decade the hat is from, if it's worth anything, ect.

I was wondering if someone who was knowledgeable about hats could take a look. I've already contacted Stetson and they are unable to help.

Hello, PCtS,

Welcome to the Lounge! The Stetson does look like it might be a '60s or '70s model, with that shortish brim. I believe the early '60s was the era of the "Tyrolean" hat, and while yours doesn't really look like that, the braided ribbon and the feather suggest that style. Is there a model name, or anything else, on the leather sweatband?

Thank you guys for responding. I was afraid to lift up the band because I didn't want to do any harm to the hat, but I did lift the band up carefully and didn't find anything. Hmmm. This hat is a mystery, as many hats are.

The United Hatters, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union was formed in 1934 and active under that name until in merged with ACTWU in 1983. I suspect your hat is closer to the later date.

Oh wow, well thank you all for your help! I'm not into hats, if I was a guy, it might be my bag, but it's just not. So as you guys are hat fans, how much would you list a hat like this on ebay?

These Sovereign Stetsons might not be truly Stetson made. After Stetson closed its dress hat factory in Philadelphia, it allowed other hat companies to use that name despite problems making high quality felt. Hats from that era usually sell for lower prices on EBay. Perhaps $50 to $80 on auction, perhaps $100 if you are lucky.
