I think over here the wearing of a British regimental or club tie is somewhat akin to a trendy t-shirt with Japanese or some other foreign writing all over it. The wearer most likely just thinks it's cool but has absolutely no idea what it means.

A few years ago there was a craze over here amongst the dunderheads of having " cool' 'mystical' 'oriental' characters tattooed at strategic locations over the body, guys would have them on the arms or side of the neck and hands the girls on the back of the neck....many of them just went to local 'Chinese' takeaways for information, one night after a few pints I found myself in our local Chinese 'chipshop' run by the illustrious, very dry and canny 'Robin' a second generation British Chinese guy whose familiy originally coming over from Hong Kong...In my semi drunken state I asked him what mystical things he wrote down for people when they asked for tattoo advice( and he charged for this)...He said " I just take something off the menu"! Laugh I nearly wet myself!

Agreed. That is far too boring for her style. In fact, the reason she got into designing ties for me was because of the poor selection of ties available at the time. lol lol

And he was. Anyone who gets something permanently attached to himself better know what it says. :doh: I have seen/heard of worse so he can count himself lucky with that.

I never understood the foreign language tattoos either. Unless you understand the language you're just asking for trouble.
Can you really blame the tattooist?
I know in heir spot I would have a hard time resisting that sort of temptation.
