Akubra Campdraft

I think the only issue I'm having with the Campdraft are the limited color choices, Silverbelly, Fawn, Moonstone, and Bluegrass Green. I want something in either a darker brown or a medium to darker grey in the OR, Strat / Campdraft style.

R.M. Williams is the exclusive retailer of the Akubra RM, which has the same dimensions as the Akubra Campdraft, but comes in Akubra's "mid-brown" color, is pre-creased, and is higher priced than other Akubras. My RM is also lighter in weight than my Campdrafts.
The representation of the color of the RM hat on the R.M. Williams website is nowhere near what it really is. My Akubra RM in mid-brown is the same darker brown that is called "mid-brown" on other websites that sell Akubra hats.
The pre-creased crown on my Akubra RM was also quite different from the photograph seen on the R.M. Williams website.

It depends on one's computer monitor settings.
My moonstone Akubras looks nowhere near as light as that photograph, but nonetheless, I would consider moonstone to be a light to medium-light gray color.

It's a mystery to me why "mid brown" is called "mid". It's "brown" or even "dark brown" if you ask me.

I would love to own one of their hats, but the do not make this easy at all! Their site still lists only 2 sizes and also states that international shipping is $85 for orders under $500!!!

How did you do business with these people?

I've seen several posts on these forums showing Campdrafts in mid-brown. When did they stop producing that color as a stock option (5 years ago, 10, 15)?
Can Hats Direct (or anyone else, for that matter) place custom orders for Campdrafts in colors available in other Akubra models? Reasonable request, if the customer is willing to pay up front with a (slight) premium.

Love that color, Tommy! Its really hard to beat a Camp Draft IMO.

I lucked onto a brand new one in my size on Etsy for less than just their shipping charge.
(How's that for an infuriatingly unhelpful post?)

All these colors are hard to capture. Here is my taupe fawn CD taken inside. The pic I posted today wearing it outside looked like a completely different color due to the overcast lighting.

You'll need to find a big group of buyers to even have a chance of getting another felt color. The bluegrass green started out that way, so it is possible, but it'll take leg work.

That's the color I was looking for. Akubra stopped making that color a couple of years ago. I'm looking at only four colors now in the Campdraft, none of which really excites me. I like the dimensions and the style of the Campdraft but I also want it in a color that I'd be happy with. Maybe custom would be the better choice. That way I'd get what I want.

You could also buy a "made for sale in America" Akubra Adventurer with a 5.625" tall open crown and 3.125" x 2.75" wide brim in that "mid-brown" color from The Cultured Cowboy, Kakadu Trader, or David Morgan, and trim down the brim if it's too wide for you, and you don't mind taking the time and trouble.
The "American" Akubra Adventurer has the lightest and softest felt of any Akubra hat that I own. The lined hat weights 4.9 ounces and the brim bends upward in a stiff breeze, unlike the brims of any of my other Akubra hats.

That is a solid black pool table cover it is sitting on, so there is a good deal of flash bounce in those photos.
Here is a Moonstone Fed4 for comparison....

I wear most of my Fed IVs with a centre dent. There have been a couple of requests for pics but I've only just seen this thread.
Apologies, if the pics are not needed now but here are my brown, moonstone and fawn Fed IVs.

I've never had an Indy comment, maybe it's not as imprinted in peoples minds here in the UK?

Love it. That is one big fat freekn straight sided crown! Is it trick photography or do I see almost a reverse taper...?

Truer words were never spoken.

These are all the same hat, my Taupe Fawn Campdraft photographed on different days in direct sunlight, with no photo manipulation. The photo in the middle is probably the closest representation of the actual color under those conditions (on my monitor, anyway), and I think it's still a little off.
