Took me awhile to get it. A very telling juxtaposition.
When I was a small boy, one of our school exercises was to write about how old we would be in the year 2000. I remember working out that I would be 52/53, an age I couldn't comprehend. Most of us thought that we would never get there, such was the sense of pessimism at the height of the cold war that even children didn't believe that the world would survive long enough to see the 21st century.

Thompson's book, "Six Seconds in Dallas" came out in ~1966. I didn't read it until 1970 & never questioned the official version until then. It along with Mark Lane's book opened my eyes.
