'Just Leather' Leather Jacket: anyone with experience?

I found the vintage one @technovox posted here. Far from bad.

They are pretty good. Solid jackets that certainly would more than satisfy non-TFL types. Think Fox Creek, mid-tier Schott, etc. I’ve handled one and would not have kicked it out of the closet.

I know the owners husband and wife personally of Just Leathers for over twenty five years. They make excellent garments for motorcyclists. The company was started by his farther and has been around since the sixties. I have not spoken to them for a few months so not sure what has happened. Will reach out to them and see if I can shed any light on there status.

Be kind to your neighbors they know where you live!

Just read this on there Facebook page Looks like another great made in the bay area leather company has closed it's brick and mortar shop. I will still reach out to them and see if there is any additional information.

People are packing up and going. It's gotten unreasonably expensive to live there.

It's a tricky issue but I think Treeman's right, as sellers who have a good hide almost always want the market to know about it even if it's only a low-grade cowhide. Whenever I see "Real Leather" or its even dodgier cousin "Genuine Leather" I always have to wonder. Why would a seller use either of those terms when they could name the actual kind of beast? Even the average buyer who doesn't know much about leather would feel much more assured if he or she saw the name of the exact hide they were getting, which is why the absence of that info would be cause for concern.

I'm wary that way myself, but I honestly do believe we underestimate how unusual we are in these parts. Most folks I know away from this 'hobby' really don't think about what type of hide it is - I think most actually assume it's cow. I've shocked a few folks over the years by saying it's actually horse or goat in a jacket of mine. Many are simply unaware that they're a thing. Not so much ignorance, as just never thought about it. For most of them, "leather" is just "what shoes are made of".

It's always sad to see a "real world" business have to shut its doors, though some consolation when they can keep going online. I do wonder how ecommerce will continue to change the nature of the high street; here in London, I remember buying my first digital cameral on Tottenham Court Road in October 2003, when it was all electronics, computer and hifi shops. A year or two ago, I spent a free December afternoon wanering around the area, and discovered they were all gone - replaced by a big bookstore with a coffeeshop, all sorts of eateries, and high-end furniture showrooms in the main - the sort of businesses that can't easily be replaced by the web. It's interesting that certain things "we" as a culture still prefer to see and feel before buying, while others the web is great if it saves us a chunk of cash.

Good quality for riding. They do custom work. Guys in motorcycle clubs shop there. May not be fashion or style oriented. Maybe not for the average person who doesn't need a heavy, thick jacket for falling off a bike.

I suspect that being closed as non-essential for months probably disrupted their cash flow. Probably in forbearance. Depending on their business model, they could be in a leveraged position, and unable to maintain their lines of credit.

I like this one
