@Marc mndt appears to be well connected in the world of fashion. If you negotiate any royalties for me, I'll spit them 50/50 with you.
I'm in IT nowadays so I'm sorry but I can't help you out with that. I'm happy to contribute half of the purchase price of this beautiful Vanson though. There's only one condition: You'll have to wear it to the office for one day and share pics of the happening in the WJAYWT thread.

Thumbs up / thumbs down to LL chest patches is a frequently revisited topic of discussion on TFL. Personally, I have no problem donning a jacket with a prominently displayed chest patch . . . so long as LL pays me royalties for the free advertising. Otherwise, I am firmly in the no patch category. This is one of the reasons why I purchased a FCL reproduction of the LL Corsair . . . no chest patch.

Full disclosure: I have yet to convince any manufacturer to pay me royalties in exchange for free advertising. Truth be told, I have never broached the subject . . . yet. I think I need an agent. @Marc mndt appears to be well connected in the world of fashion. If you negotiate any royalties for me, I'll spit them 50/50 with you.

Well, if you're starting a bidding war, I'll happily endorse Lewis by wearing one with the patch for the mere cost of a new Lightning in my size, no further payment needed.... ;)

I take it you guys black out all the logos on your car and motorcycles? Never any Nike swooshes, Adidas, Puma, Converse shoes? A Polo shirt ever? Wife of course covers up the Louis Vuitton or Coach logo on the purse because she wants no one to know what brand they are?

I get that the LL logo is prominently featured and you may or may not like (personally my opinion on it has evolved) the design, size and placement. But I"m getting a good chuckle. I guess the cool police need to let us know which brands are ok to display. Im guessing anything Apple and Tesla are fine right now. :D

I'll admit to my hypocrisy as well. I'd probably never wear some of the over the top merch type stuff you see (i.e. Hard Rock Cafe, a lot of Harley Davidson, even Schott goes nuts here and there). So to each his own I guess, no harm, no foul.

It's interesting from pov of what we do and don't wear. I've gone fairly hardcore 'no logo' myself on almost everything. It got much easier to avoid them in footwear when I lost interest in sneakers a decade or so ago. The one thing that springs to mind that I do wear where logos are impossible to avoid is jeans, though at least the branding there as a rule isn't so obnoxious; to the casual observer, one pair of jeans isn't much different than the next. Not really an ideological stance in my case, more that I just don't care for the look of extensive branding. Saw a nice mc vest type thing in a good cotton drill, an aviator type style, that had a bit of a sleeveless A2 vibe about it (but much less eighties-hideous than that sounds). Would have been very practical for travelling, but not only did they put a huge logo on it, there was also a big slogan, some bike equivalent of 'live, laugh, love'. Totally ruined the look. Reminded me of my other pet hate with logos: where you see a printed t-shirt which replicates some specific reference point - say, one of the shirts Jim Parsons wore in The Big Bang Theory - and then, instead of leaving it as an accurate replica, they plaster a big show logo on it, like someone making a point of explaining a joke which ruins said joke...

Interestingly, I've always admired a good Rocker jacket and they tend to be prominently covered in motorcycle brands... I suppose the difference there, though, is that patches applied by an owner tend to be a matter of choice, identification, say something about the wearer, as opposed to being a manufacturer-applied thing, make it more interesting imo. Again, purely an aesthetic interest not a moral judgment.

I agree with some of the others there. A small logo on the chest or arm bothers me little or not at all. Large logos and lettering, for example, across the back and / or chest are a reason not to buy the item.
For me a question than how intrusive I find this kind of branding.

FWIW, I usually de-badge my cars. Moreover, my aversion to prominently placed logos is not limited to LL. I do not wear shirts with polo players or alligators on the chest, nor any other brands that prominently display their name or logo. I also do not wear graphic t-shirts. I remove manufacturer tags/labels whenever reasonably possible. Do I have a few articles of clothing with discretely placed manufacturer labels that I am unable to remove. Yes. However, these labels are very discrete and largely unnoticeable.

In contrast, the LL patch is VERY prominent. Upon first glance, your eye goes straight to it. It is not a discrete marking that is easily overlooked. Moreover, on the more simple models (e.g., the Corsair), the patch breaks up the otherwise clean lines of the jacket.

I do not like patches on any leather jackets. I understand that patches play an important role in the history of both military and moto jackets. Nevertheless, I prefer cleaner lines, uninterrupted by patches. For me, there is something discordant about a patch on a leather jacket.

Does the gold lettering on the Lewis badge wear off? That's what I thought. Or is it permanent like Sharpie?

I generally don't like wearing logos, but I'm ok with the LL patch. What was said above about the patch breaking up the clean lines I could see bothering me but for some reason it doesn't. LL has such a long and iconic history, I don't mind displaying it.

(I did however opt out of the sleeve coin pocket.)

Regarding my recent question about veg tan leather in the rain. It was very wet here last week, and I wore the jacket in a steady medium rain a few times for 10-20 minutes each. The water basically beaded up and rolled off. After dabbing off excess water, the leather itself seemed to remain dry, with no noticeable marks or stains. I imagine if I was out in a downpour for a while, the leather would eventually saturate.

I have to say that the badge has grown on me in the last year as well, but I still think I would prefer to order one without it. The Dominator in Marc's material choices would be the one for me, minus the patch.

With that said, it's not so obtrusive as to be obnoxious if the jacket still had it.

D-day. Got my lightning yesterday. I'll put up some fancier IG shots next week once I get some wears on it. But just to give you all a taste.

Leather - as everyone has said is spectacular. Brg sheep. Very soft and pliable yet tough. Just a dream. Definitely more pine tree green vs murky alligator I was hoping for. In bright sun it's close to little green army men. But it does darken with different light. We'll see if patina, skin oil touches over time etc get me closer. Otherwise I might hit it with some boot oil after this year to coax it along. Got it wet yesterday, wore it dry. Creases on creases.

Fit - I've got several cross zips so was going for something different, little longer and more cylinder. They brought in the shoulders a good 2 inch. I'm glad I insisted on taking off 5cm from waist. Rip wanted to go little longer, we compromised and I think it's perfect for how I wear my jeans. Covers the belt with a finger or two to spare. Ive got enough cropped jackets so again wanted this one little different. Glad I added an extra couple cm on the sleeves too since I narrowed the shoulders. I asked for a little pinch in the midsection but it was against their vision. I think the taper from ptp to mid could be slightly better especially since I went narrower on the waist, but this is getting super nit picky. All in all, another positive endorsement for LL team to build a jacket to size.

The gussets on the sleeve zips lay weird. Probably need breaking in because when you zip fully, it's an uncomfortable sort of fold. Everyone should just steal Vanson design lol. No one does it better.

Jacket is just a joy to wear. So comfy, perfect weight for warm weather. Could easily wear into summer nights even with the quilted lining. Lots of give on the leather. So yeah, size down.

Nearing the end of my jacket buying. Got something in the mail to upgrade my older schott A2. In line with FL. But with this right here, it's going out with a bang.

Wow! Glad I read on.. I was going to say:"So cool someone at LL helped you with the breaking in process. Looks incredible. Another LL homerun for the TFL crowd.

I popped into LL today to check out their new vegtan horse - see attached - v different from their vegtan cow, and in more colours - notably stiffer but with plenty of grain and patina, plus dyed though rather than teacore…..planning on a Western in burgundy. The shots here include the blue, green, brugundy, brown - all on Lightnings. Same upcharge as for the vegtan cow….

That looks fantastic! The color must pop a lot more in person, because in the pics it looks a very blackish green to me.

Im wearing mine today as well:
View attachment 376011
thanks!!! It's only in the bright sun where it gets really really green. Indoor light and cloudy it's within range of where I wanted to be. I'm not going to mess with it for several months, see what happens. But I think a shade or two darker is more in my wheelhouse.

that worn brown looking one looks amazing. The shot of the green next to the blue is pretty close to color representation of the green (at least on my screen) Maybe a touch more pine needle green.
