Sorry, BK, this took me a while. The felt of the Mossant is lovely. I may try to contact Mossant for a definitive (hopefully) answer regarding the date(s) of manufacture.
Stetson acquired Mallory in the 1950's so we know it's nearly 50 years old if not considerably older.
If you chance upon any more information regarding Chapeau Mossant and Mallory, I'd be interested.

Hey guys just snagged this...What do you think about the era? 30's? 40's? the fabric looks like it could even be 60's-70's, but the cut and details like the button fly suggest not...Thoughts?

Notice button fly...That fabric makes me wonder though...

1930s.

'course, it could be later western wear. They stayed pretty classic in their styling. But the lapel buttonhole is telling me 1930s. I seem to remember some Apparel Arts ads with such fabrics. I'm guessing you've got an NRA or earlier suit.

Nice palm beach suit with issues that are probably all easily fixed.

I saw that a couple of loungers were bidding on this particular suit so I canceled my bid at the last second...Then lo and behold another sniper took it home... =(

Agreed. 1930's, based on the lapels. Check out the button fly. If I saw the buttons or inside labels, I could tell you more.

The label was white lettering on black background "Pioneer Tailoring Co. Chicago, IL". All else the same i would say definitely 1930s, but the name of the company - possibly western wear - throws a very small potential spanner into the works.

Button fly tells us nothing about age.

Also, the buttons didn't look very period correct to my eyes...However, I'm no expert on these kinds of things. The fabric looks very much like a 60's Geoffrey Bean suit I have is the reason why I brought it up...

Regardless, I go for cut and fit, not age....

The buttons are fine for 1930s American.

What really stands out . . . what seals the deal, in my opinion, (of course in addition to all the other obvious features from the pictures) is the height of the buttons. America was a very early adopter of the lowered button stance. Look how far the bottom button is from the base of the jacket. You wouldn't see this in a non-bespoke 1950s or later American jacket. The jacket is almost more British in its features than American . . . very very interesting jacket. Look at the lapels; just wonderful. Is it wrong that i get this excited by a jacket? If i was just shown these pictures, and had not known where the jacket was sold, i'd have said it was British. Compare to this British 30s number:

Of course it is! you weirdo. With that said, I'm VERY excited about a nice jacket that I hope comes into my posession, but am not certain about yet...I'll post further details if I win it =)
