Hi Everyone!

I just got a load of wonderful pictures of my paternal grandma Irene in the 40s. I also have great pics of Grandpa Sam Brown Sr. in WW2 uniform, but that would be OT.

Please enjoy Irene's fashion sense through the 40s her hairstyles as well. Grandma loved to glam it up for the camera!

I hope these aren't too big. I used Message Board sizing option on my photobucket account.

Wedding Day in September of 1946 with Sam Brown Sr. Irene and Sam took these wedding day pictures at the Belmar Boardwalk in New Jersey where they met. Sam was stationed in New Jersey, but originally from Texas. During the war, he corresponded with Irene.

My very favorite picture. Irene has a photo of Sam in uniform. This was taken while he was serving in the Philaphines.

Wonderful pictures, thanks so much for sharing them! It's especially great to see photos from this era of a girl who wore a larger size. I'll take her novelty print dress please!

I agree! Too many people think of Hollywood glam when it comes to that time period. Here's a real honest to goodness woman who looks amazing! Thank you! :eusa_clap

I love these pictures (particularly some of the photo booth ones of Grandma) because they show her personality. Grandma really loved hamming it up. I have more recent pics of her sitting in her kitchen, but she puts her hand behind her head and jokingly vamps it for the camera. She was great!

I also have a few from the 50s that might post that have more great clothes (and one really great lucite bag).

For anyone interested, I posted some uniformed photos of Sam over on this thread:

Irene in the 50s

Of course, I am estimating the date of some of the pics.

Irene was from Belmar, NJ growing up. When I would go visit as a kid, they lived in Neptune City. This isn't far from Belmar.

Sam Sr. was from Texas.

I love that dress, too. I would love to recreate Grandma's wardrobe and since I am curvier gal, she's kind of become my fashion inspiration.

There are some people who's personality just jumps out of old pictures--I so wish I could go out to lunch with Irene, she looks like so much fun!

I love the upholstery on that couch too.

Thank you for the lovely comments about my grandma.

I wish I could go to lunch with her, too. I miss her. She and Grandpa were fun people. Mostly, I remember lots of laughter at her house. You would have liked her home, too. It was chock full of antiques which are now in my parents' home. I remember when Grandpa used to say something shocking she mock slap his arm and say "Oh, Sam, Get out!" Gran loved old movies and Shirley temple (we have one of her composite Temple dolls).

When we were younger, Gran never went out without powdering her face and putting on lipstick. She'd come out of the bathroom and make smoochie faces at me and my sister. She was pretty funny. She loved the camera and even later in life she liked to vamp it up, doing come hither looks at the camera with her hand behind her head. Seriously. :)
