What hat with a leather motorcycle style jacket ?

try one of the newsboy type caps-in leather-and wear it backwards.
you have to get one that's pretty thin in front, so it looks ok from behind.
tried it myself, works ok, looks good with black leather. I usually wear
a darker color Open-Road type fedora with a cafe-type jacket,or-a black
beret; with the old school jacket, with all the buckles and belts...
you don' need no stinkin' hat!!

I would opt for the helmet. Pack a newsboy hat or flat cap / fedora but protect your noggin from the street!!!

I'm surprised noone does a regular remake of that. all I've ever been able to find online in terms of an accurate replica was some limited edition one at several hundred dollars.... yeesh. No way would Johnny or any of the BRMC have had that kind of scratch to blow on a hat!! Great looking hat, though. There are a lot of leather ones, though for me they're less Brando, more Village People in look. Your mileage may vary, of course.

I wear a Brand style jacket a lot - typically with that I'll pair either a Gatsby, a flat cap, or a fisherman's cap. A grey herringbone flatcap or Gatsby is pure class teamed with an mc leather. I don't much care for the look of a fedora with an MC, but that's to personal taste again. I'm also influenced by practicality there: when I wear an MC it temds to be in situations where I want a hat I can roll and stuff in a pocket, so a cap fits the bill better there. If gonig for a fedora, though, I think a shorter (but not too stingy) brim works well with an mc - 2" or so.

Riding a motorcycle WHILE wearing a fedora? Now that I've got to see! lol

Actually, all our discussion is moot if we are talking about your typical American motorcyclists who quickly adopt the "uniform", sometimes before they actually buy the bike. I have a friend who bought a big bike to show how tough he was. But after constant heckling by fellow riders about his brown leather jacket he finally caved and bought an "official" one so he would look like the other biker lemmings in his particular circle of friends. Some tough guy. :eusa_doh: I don't bother him about it because he's having fun and so far has not laid down as many bikes as I have.

As one of those who ride (1964 BMW with 1942 Stoye sidecar)

I wear a full face helmet with flip up face.

A very heavy leather German police Green Double Breasted jacket from right after the war keeps me protected. Like a nice dress shirt under the jacket. I am not going to wear a black leather jacket thats to much of the American biker look for me.
As for what I wear when I take my helmet off I have a nice news boy cap from B! Wear it folds nicely inside my jacket. If I feel real daring then a Beret that I got years ago when traveling in Holland.
Both look great with the jacket and do set me off from the American Bikers in their leather jackets tee shirts jeans and baseball caps.

David- nice jacket! I however would opt for a lighter colored fedora-
either an OR or the many clones- or a different colored Borsalino-style-
maybe Adam/Dobbs etc. with a contrasting ribbon and edge binding- a
medium brown body with a copper-ish ribbon would be interesting...
and you don't need a hard bag- simply one large enough and tough
enough (think nylon/cordura) so you can put the hat in a plastic bag
to keep it clean whilst motoring.
I do use this combination myself with a couple of very vintage looking hats,
and both the cafe-style jacket or the collared-style lend themselves well to
a fedora; gotta have a nice jacket to start- just picked up a killer deep caramel
Vanson cafe-style, early '60's I believe...

Hmmm...I am voting for a loose topped newsboy or beret. ASctually the beret with the brim pulled toward the, achieves a very oldschool (1920's) biker look.

I realize this part is

fftopic: but as a rider myself (Triumph Sprint ST), I wouldn't be in a jacket that didn't have some sort of pads and/or CE armor in the elbows, shoulders and possibly the back. Additionally, though I am very convinced that Schott jackets are supurb, there are many that provide higher protection and a better price. Looking good is great....living on to look good....even better. lol Just my two cents. If you would like some links drop me a note.

It's funny that this topic has come up.
Now that the weathered will be getting cooler I have just started thinking about a fedora for my weathered black leather journeyman jacket.
This is all new to me since this past Monday I purchased my first straw panama. I have grown tired of baseball caps.
Since the jacket isn't a dark black I was considering a graphite or charcoal color fedora. I really don't want a black hat. I was looking at the Stetson Sutley but was wondering if it was too dressy. I think I look better in a 2 1/2" brim rather than something larger and this hat has it.
If any of you guys have any suggestions for a Fedora that would look good with a weathered black leather jacket I would like to hear them.
