My "Henry" w/pics

Ok, guys and dolls. I just got back from the movies and found a box waiting for me, It was my AB "Henry." The first thing I did was put it on and the fit was right on. I gave it a turn to put in the Raiders swoop. I then creased the hat. Total time ten minutes. It will need some attention to the crease for the next few days but I have no doubt that it will hold without water or steam.

The felt,

The 80% rabbit makes it nice and floppy and the color is perfect for the Raiders hat. The 20% beaver gives just a tad more body than a rabbit felt hat. The 20% makes for a better pounce job/finish.

Ribbon,

It's the AB ribbon and marc must have drove the factory crazy because they did a good job with getting a Raiders look.

sweatband,
I never seen anything like it. I'm wearing the hat know and cant tell it has a sweatband in it. The sweatband has a bit of give and I really think this thing will form to ones head like no other.

Oval all,

I'm very pleased with the "Henry". It's is by far better than any factory/machine made hat and better than some handmade ones.

again Marc and Steve, you SOG's have done it again. bravo.

... and finally what you been waiting for, the pics.

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful.

Love the shape and the wide, darker ribbon. I can even tell from the pics how smooth and even the felt is. Like the deep side dents with the tight pinch in front, too, though the center crease looks a bit off center in that last rear-view photo.

If this hat were a woman, I'd would have already made my best move!

I've seen that color called "mink." What do they call it? Give us the stats, too--brim width, pre-bashed crown height, grosgrain lignes. And price, yes PRICE!

Maybe it's the rum, but "AB," obviously a custom hattery, is just not computing at this moment. What's that stand for?

The center crease should look like that because just like the Raiders hat in the movie, the hat is turn a tad before you put in the bash.

For specs on the Adventurebilt "Henry''

its' a 5 1/2 inch open crown. 2 7/8 front and back with the sides at 2 5/8. Same specs as the Raiders hat.

The ribbon is the same ribbon used on the Adventurebilt,Adventurebilt delux and myself.

There are only 4 hats that have this ribbon. It's a very dark brown almost black grosgrain ribbon. flat not shinny.

Thanks. I had a cat named Henry, superb mouser, excellent leaper. But I digress.

Being an both an Indy Jones and hat fanatic, I could not get an Adventurebilt in time to wear to the Spring '08 film, so I got an Akubra Adventurer from David Morgan, instead.

Unfortunately, as I suspected, the dimensional front/back 3 1/8 X sides 2 7/8 brim was too wide for me, making it look like a lampshade on a skinny pole, so I wore it but once--to the movie--and returned in for a refund. It was not that it was an imperfect match of Indiana's hat, but rather that it looked stupid on me, and the mid-brown color was too dark for my taste, as well.

The lighter color, type felt, contrasting ribbon, and trimmer brim all attract me to the Adventurebilt Henry.

Still want to know about yours:

Color?

Where'd you buy it?

How long the wait?

Price, hat + shipping & handling?

Careful there, Arthur. Some of these guys are pretty darned passionate about this stuff. (I ain't among 'em, but I got nothing against it, either.) So grab your asbestos suit, pal.

So bendingoak, your post had me doing a bit of looking around the web for more on this Adventurebilt Henry model, and so far about all I've discovered (I think) is that it's some factory-made lid that meets the approval of Misters Delk and Kitter and therefore wears the Adventurebilt brand and is marketed through their company. Izzat right?

And if it is right, who actually makes 'em? Stratton, maybe? Or that outfit in Jersey that was making Camptown hats?

For how much are they retailing?

Okay, that was funny!

They're in the same price-range. What would be the deciding factor in buying, say, a Henry over one of your Penman's, Oak? Is there a difference?

I hear that beaver is the best felt out there. If both hats are using the same ribbon, the same general block, and the same quality in general, is there a difference other than the felt content? One is rabbit and one is beaver. I only have one shot at a hat. Which one should I go with based on your observations?

You appear to be very much taken with the Henry - which is a great display of honesty, considering you even make your own version of an AB. :eusa_clap Which of these do you think will last longer, based on your experience of everyday adventure and the different felts' ability to withstand actual use? It's looking like the Henry is the way to go based on your testament!

I believe they're both around $300. Which one is more accurate and the better deal for the money? Is one more accurate than the other?

I only have a Christy's, which I cheapishly paid about $100 for; it has similar features (with the exception of the ribbon tacking) and can be ordered (had been about a year and a half before either of these hats came onboard;)) with actual Raiders hat specs, or even with the Henry specs, if someone prefers those. But that's neither here nor there. Aside from the $200 ribbon difference that separates the three, which one is the better between these two, in your opinion? The sweat on the Henry is the way to go or is yours the same as the Henry?

I'm trying to distinguish between the standard look among all of the "accurate" hats out there and the gradual price increase that goes along with a few of them.

For that money I want the hat that is going to look right and last better for real wear.

Here's my old Christy's (with another "close enough" - merely rabbit felt - Indy hat behind it) in a couple of shots.

But let's say the Christy's and the other hat weren't available and I do want to spend the extra money on a hat that stands out so screen-accurately. (Well, at least with better ribbon?) Which one should I lay my money on between the two, being that they're so close?

A fine looking Hat there Mr. Oak though I must admit that I'm starting to find it difficult to tell all of these hats apart not being in person as it were.

Let's cool it. If you have a constructive comment to make about the hat then make it. If you don't like Indy hats then don't buy one, but don't flame this thread.

I hope to be corrected if wrong but I believe that the hat is made on a different block. So the shape would be slightly different than the AB.

Arthur , I don't understand your comments. Fedora's are a lost item almost and if Indy fedora's spark some interest in fedora's. Should that make you happy. To keep something you like alive. I'm a new vender here and posting a review about another venders offering. Is there any reason to come in here and jump all over it. I thought a vender of fedora's would have a warmer welcome than this.

Now, to answer some questions.

Beaver will hold up better than any other felt. rabbit or a mix of the two.

The difference between the AB Henry and the Ab or ABD. The felt is different it's a factory hat. The block has the AB shape to it. It's has that special ribbon of theirs. The sweatband has a lot of give to it making it very comfortable. If you can't spend the cash for a Ab or a ABD or wait for them then a Henry is a good option. Also if you wanted a rabbit Raiders hat like the one in the Movie ( Raiders) than it's a good option.

here's the link to the website.
