Hey guys, well im yoyochango. My friend JJ Gittes has got me into the whole Vintage scene and i think its very cool. Im into alot of the stuff from WW2 (like the jackets, and surplus) im also into vintage hats. I think there very cool and want to get one very soon, glad to be a part of this.

Hello all. I found this forum recently, how, I'm not sure. I'm a 34 year old professional in Ottawa, Canada who's always had a taste for the classic. I have an interest in antique office equipment and decor, classic architecture (from gothic to art deco), snappy dressing, and I just bought my first fountain pen of many to come I'm sure. And autos, I love classic cars, having had a friend with an nice collection stretching from the 1930's to the 1960's. I was charged with cleaning, driving and showing them while I was a mature teenager. That's one of them in my avatar, a 1941 Buick 8. This site is a great resource and I'll be spending many hours here.

I've already posted quite a bit but thought it would be nice to introduce myself. I'm a high school student in washington state, I got caught up in vintage style a few years back when I had an English teacher with an interest in it. He piqued my interest with old radio plays we listened to every other friday. After gaining an affinity for detective radio shows I became interested in Noir and started watching a lot of that, I got interested in that whole era of books, movies, people etc. and loved it.

I found the Lounge though when I was looking for a coat similar to the one David tennant sported in "Doctor Who". One of the first results was a thread on this site discussing the replica that Magnoli makes.

So through two seperate interests I've learned to love the lounge

I've been lurking around for awhile, finally decided to join so I could chime in!
I'm 29 and currently reside in the old mining town of Jerome, AZ. While I've always been into the rockabilly scene, I'm now going towards a more authentic vintage experience.

I'm recently divorced (sad) and am loving the way vintage hair and makeup make me feel. I've learned a great deal from this forum already (cold cream and witch hazel convert...skin is loving it!).

I've gotten back into roller derby and am a former burlesque performer (I realize some may not agree, but I find burlesque completely empowering after having had an eating disorder and body issues for 11 years!).

I'm so excited to have found the Powder Room and Beauty Forums...I know I will learn a lot and I hope I can contribute at some point to help others as well!

Hi I'm from outside of Pittsburgh PA (a place that is overloaded with history). I'm 24 and am currently a graduate nurse (I take boards on March 31). I think this site is cool. I've always kind of thought of my self as "old school" kinda guy. I don't own a hat, but I want one. I'm also looking for a good place to to buy vintage "bowling" shirts or button downs of that nature.

Paul Newman is probably my favorite actor and my favorite movie is The Hustler. If I could get away with it I'd dress like Tom Hanks in Road to Perdition, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood or an extra in The Hustler. In real life I'm just a jeans and t shirt person.

Welcome to all our new comers! One of the main themes in so many of these introductions is how we came across the lounge looking for information on a subject, spent time reading as a lurker and finally decided to join up.

I'd like to invite you all to do, on a regular basis, is check the Events section. As members sign up in various places often we get reports of neat things going on that may appeal to our vintage interests from all over the globe. If you're traveling for business or pleasure you may like to check and see if there is a contingent at your destination or if others can reccomend things to do. With a little luck you may find yourself in a local like NY or even Los Angeles, a hotbed of activity.

If dame fortune has smiled upon you, remember that we get together at the Queen Mary in Long Beach California one weekend in November, each year.
It is a nice way to get to meet people with similar interests in vintage and have a chance to talk (face to face) while enjoying the great Lady herself the QM.

Hi, my name is Scott - a Texan settled in Seattle. I bought my first fedora in 2001 and since then have picked up six more. I found this forum when searching for information on Borsalinos - after that I couldn't stop reading all of your interesting posts, which inspired me to pick up my first vintage hat on ebay recently. I'm completely hooked on wide-brimmed fedoras, but all the interesting conversation here has me expanding interests, especially the pictures of vintage 'open road' hats and how some of you have re-shaped the crowns. You have a great forum here and I look forward to learning much more from you.

Hello ladies, I just joined the Lounge after finding it linked from the men's Hat website a few weeks back. I also heard about the Lounge from a new Art Deco Society friend and singer I met at the Yosemite Heritage Holidays in the Awhawnee Hotel when our family attended, at the beginning of this month.

I'm telling friends that since the Yosemite event I've gone "deco", but I have loved old movies (and old songs) since way back in 7th grade (1972?) when I first fell in love with Fred Astaire watching old F&G movies on the tellie! I enjoy seeing the old movies on the big screen here in No. Calif at the Stanford Theater in Palo Alto. My favorites film other than F&G are the Thin Man movies with William Powell and Myrna Loy. I wanna dress like Nora Charles!

My DH and I met ballroom dancing, and now our 12-1/2yo son (a Fred Astaire wannabe) and our 14-1/2yo dd also go dancing with us. Foxtrot is my favorite dance!

We've just very recently as a family "stepped into the very deep waters of vintage clothing" as I like to tell friends. I'm still figuring out that I like the 1930's and 1040's clothes, but the 40's styles suit my figure better. And I LOVE 40's HATS! I just have started acquiring a small but lovely collection, mostly on evilBay. I have a few pieces of vintage clothing and just a little bit of accessories (so far), but already had lots of things that are new but with a vintage style/look to them.

I've got to look up especially the thread(s) on hair dos. I'm definitely vintage hairstyle-challenged!

Hi Elina! I really like your hair in these pics. My hair is also stick straight, baby fine and I cannot do anything with it! I'm vintage hair-challenged! I need to learn to do pincurls, just had it done once by my hairdresser (who thought I was crazy) and also set once by our 14-1/2 yo dd who read about how to do it in a Molly American Girl book! I need to find a vintage hair mentor in our local Art Deco Society who can help me out and teach me. I was looking at the thread on this the other night but so much of the info just flew over my head...

Since January, this year, I've started to experiment with vintage hairstyles as well! I discovered pin curls and I think it's great fun! It's been quite a challenge for me, doing pin curls and vintage hair styles, becaus my hair is very fine, with thin hairs. It's not "heavy" at all and tends to be frizzy, and all that issues one can get with fine hair. But, after almost 3 months of practicing pin curls, I slowly begin to get the hang of it, more and more. I still wish that my hair was thick...but, there's nothing to do about it, than to accept it as it is.

Hello All, delighted to be here...

I just joined last night after finding this link first while hunting for a boater hat for our 12-1/2yo son, who has the making of becoming a Deco Dandy. Already he is a Fred Astaire wannabe... and just told me a couple of weeks ago that he needs an Art Deco era vintage wardrobe- that's my boy! Our new decogirlfriend Miss1929 told me to check out the Lounge for threads on foundations and vintage hair help (and boy, do I need that- I'm quite hair challenged)

I'm a stay at home mom, with a hubby that I met ballroom dancing. Our son and daughter (14-1/2yo) now go dancing and to more related events with us, as they now can stay up later!

I've been a fan of old movies since 7th grade, especially love Fred & Ginger and the Thin Man series. In H.S. way back in the mid 1970's I listened to Big Band music instead of Pablo Cruise and Elton John. I still have my Paul Weston plays George Gershwin and Jerome Kern LPs! I sing and love all the standards, I've even sung a few times at our favorite place to go ballroom dancing out here, for all the dancers.

When I grow up (okay maybe RIGHT now- I just turned 50 this past Aug) I want to dress like Nora Charles, and like Ginger Rogers did in her movies with Fred. I've just recently discovered that evilBay has 1940's HATS. OhMyGoodnessgraciousme! You may be saying well DUHHH, they have like everything on there...

I love 1930's and 1940's clothes, but it seems the 40's stuff fit my shape better. Our dd at this age has a figure more suited for the 1920's.

DHubby just got his first vintage 40's suit and fedora, and an authentic WWII Army Air Corp Captain's uniform. He's hooked! He is now sporting his mustache ala' William Powell, too cool!

I've taken to wearing my vintage duds to church, and "out and about" here. I get lots of encouraging comments. Wearing vintage is certainly a conversation starter it seems. I'm also an evening gown (modern) kind of gal, and love any excuse to dress up in fancy clothes.

I volunteer with the California Pops Orchestra, actually the entire family does; both kids are ushers, and DH is the score reader cueing the video operators.

I could go on, but I think I already did! Again glad to be here, looks like a place I can learn a lot and find and make like-minded vintage-loving new friends.

Hi, everyone. I've been a member here for a while now and I think I might have introduced myself before, but I can't remember when or what I said, so I figured a re-do was in order.

My fiance, a lover of all things '40s and '50s, introduced me to Fedora Lounge, and am I ever glad he did. My tastes are all over the map...Stickley, Frank Lloyd Wright, most anything Deco, Vionnet, Chanel, Dior, french ivory, depression glass, ironstone and MedAlta, Katherine Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Billie Holiday, Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, and Miles Davis. If I had to narrow down an era, I would say I'm rooted firmly in the '30s with branches extending out in either direction.

You'll most likely find me posting about hair and sewing. I'm only just learning how to "do" my hair, and I have lots of questions. I don't have as many questions about sewing, but I do love to swap ideas, techniques and of course, patterns and pics. I have a decent selection of vintage patterns and am always eager to see what others have going on.

I have bought four hats from Byrnie Utz's in the last year, most recently a week ago, but only one straw - a Bailey Collins; however, seeing all the great examples on this forum, I'm sure I'll pick up another when it gets warmer. My goal for Monday is to get out of there with only supplies, and no hat!

Hey everyone I've been a member for about a year now...I've just been really quiet about it. My fiance introduced me to FL, as his tastes are firmly planted in the '40s and '50s, and he thought I would enjoy the site, as well. He was right.

My tastes are somewhat scattered, but I would say I'm most drawn to the '30s. There's a simplicity to the time that resonates with me. I'm more knowledgable in vintage furniture than I am vintage fashion, but I'm a quick learner. I'm here because...well...FL is just a really cool site packed with people who know what they're talking about and are passionate about it.

my name is Tom, I live in Germany but work in a neighbouring country - thanks to the open borders brought to us by the Schengen agreement.

Being an airliner by profession (ground staff though), historic aviation, mainly the glorious days of flying onboard the Stratocruiser and Super Constellation or even the early jets such as the DeHavilland Comet, is my key interest. Besides aviation one could say that I like dealing with anything that moves (cars, ships, etc) and was in operation between the late 1940s and mid 1960s - sometimes even with excursions to the 1930s. Over the past few years I had bought two classic cars from 1947 and 1956... I could convince my wife by telling her that she can go and look for a dress that fits to the car So we are slowly but surely collecting some vintage clothes, although we are still at the very beginning and have nothing presentable yet.

I got to the FL from from an excellent German swingstyle forum (www.return2style.de), which however limits its scope strictly to the 20s to 40s. In order not to work too much on the nerves of these good people when asking 1950s questions I trust that I found a good place here.
