Hair coloring + eyebrow color match question

Hi,
I am an 8G naturally but I decided to go black (#1) which I love. I was wondering what other ladies do to match their eyebrows to their color. My favorite eyebrow fixer-upper has been apparently discontinued and I can't find it anymore, so I'm wondering if I should use mascara and a black eye pencil or if I should dye the brows or if there's something else I should do altogether.
Thank you! :)

I color my brows carefully with the same dye used for my hair, or have my hairdresser do it. Put it on with a q tip or small brush and leave it on no more than 10 minutes. Wipe it off with a tissue, then a damp cloth. Put some conditioner on your brows when you do your hair.

I color my brows because there are white hairs coming in there, and now that I'm growing my gray out, I still like them better dark.

I am naturally blonde. I dyed my hair blue-black for years. What I did to make my eyebrow match my hair was use a matte black eyeshadow on them when I put my makeup on -- I did have my hairdresser dye them once but it looked weird & harsh (to me), so I decided that wasn't the best way to go. With the black eyeshadow you can brush it across the hair & it still comes out looking soft & natural, but it's not as scary as putting chemical dyes on the eyebrows. I preferred this to any other method I tried because of how soft it came out looking. I used to use a matte black MAC shadow ('Carbon') on mine. It worked a treat.

eta: I also used to use with the eyeshadow a dark brown pigmented eyebrow wax. It was this stuff, "Brow Zings" by Benefit cosmetics -- I used the darkest one. I'd do the wax first and then powder the black eyeshadow over it. I was looking for a photo in case I didn't explain what I meant well. I think this one shows it okay:

The standard rule is that your brows should be 2 to 3 shades darker than your hair colour - for black hair, I believe it's 1.5 shades lighter. However there are tons of exceptions, notably Ginger Rogers:

Monroe, in all her platinum glory, also coloured her brows charcoal/black.

Ideally, your natural brows will suit your face. I have a blonde friend who has naturally black brows, and she looks great. On the other side, my light ginger brows look terrible with my hair colour and makeup, so I shade them soft black. I have tended to notice that strong and thick brows do not suit darkest shades, no matter what the hair colour is.

It all depends - Experiment, and go with what looks good. :)

I make my hair red, but my eye brows are naturally a lightish brown, and they are sparse in the amount of hair. Something I inherited from my blonde mother. Any way I use a darkish auburn shade brown powder and a fine angle brush. If I don't I have nearly invisible eye brows.

You can tint them with Roux lash and brow dye. It comes in brown and black.

Of course, this only works if they are lighter than your hair.

My hair is naturally a light-medium auburn red, but my brows and lashes are closer to a medium brown. One thing that instantly gives away a bottle redhead to me is when she's got the fire-engine red brows to match. ;)

I don't think brows & hair should match completely - in nature, they usually don't! My sister's hair is black and her brows are just a smidge lighter, really a very dark brown.

I had my brows waxes one time and the place i went to is always wanting to sell you something more to go with the $30 :)eek: ) brow wax. She drew a line on my hand of a Darphin eye brow pencil and it was 65 dollars! I just said no, and went to wal mart and drew a line of EVERY brown pencil i could find until i found one that matched it. It was a NYC line eyeliner and was 1.65, I bought it and it's the one i use, my hair is a combination of a level 3 and a level 1,it looks mostly black and all i ever do is fill in my brows. You don't want them to look OBVIOUSLY colored in, but just a little natural exaggeration.

I once made my brows red just like my hair, only it was not as vibrant red on my eyebrows then on my head so it looked kinda silly.

My colege would make fun of me and reminds me of it very often :)

Whenever I dye my hair red from the natural blonde I always use the same dye I use on my hair. It does fae much more quickly and my borws are really sparse so I use a brown pencil to fill them in so they look a little darker than my hair, but still have the same red tone to them. I've never had any problems with the dye running down my face. I use just enough to coat the brows and wipe off any excess around them and it works really well. I also just leave the dye on the same amount of time I do the dye simply because I'm too lazy. It works for me. :)
