I agree, the white suits the dress a lot better. I love the idea of wearing the dress throughout the seasons. I have a similar one thats more of an aqua shade that I even wear in the winter! (I'm in Texas so its never that cold). I bet this one would look sweet with a grey or white 50s beaded...
well gave the salt a try last night. It seemed to help a little, made the stains even less noticeable. They are over 50 year old stains!
I think if I would have let it sit longer it would have done better. I freaked out and remembered something I read about salt stains and washed it off. It was...
I use the Quattro too. I think its great. I had the Venus for a while but I think I lost it when I went out of town or something. I shave every other day, I could probably go longer but I'd rather not.
I tried the skintimate stuff too, I loved the scents but hated how it clogged the razor. Now...
my weekend spree at Dallas vintage shops. My favorite find is the grey / red corduroy dress from the 40s that I got for $10! I had to replace the zipper and it does have some perspiration stains that I'm working to remove but still a good find. I also love the embroidered tunic, so comfy...
so how do you get out old perspiration stains? I bought a dress this weekend that has some slight ones under the arms (see it in the show us your purchases thread) Its red / grey corduroy from the 40s so I don't think I should scrub at all for fear that it might ruin the corduroy. Any suggestions?
cool miss neecerie, and yeah I'm sure there's different print dates floating around... shoe and slipper patterns? Sweet, I'll have to look for those. I'm taking it chapter by chapter but I might have to skip around a bit. I love finding new (to me, but actually old) sewing resources.
I almost forgot about one of my amazon purchases. The pic below shows it with out the dust jacket (which is a bummer b/c the dust jacket has some great illustrations). Anyways, a great deal for less than $2 and a cool resource. I'm reading it chapter by chapter, its actually more like a tutorial...
wow lady day I love that bracelet! I've seen some like it before but they're always so expensive. Is it plastic or wood? I think the ones I've seen have been plastic, lucite or bakelite I guess.
NYX:
ooh, how about a more 40's skirt, fitted through the waist and hips w/ a flare or flounce towards the bottom? I think it would hide the thighs nicely, its more of an a line, which is flattering on most everyone.Or try a circle skirt for a fifties look.
If you can stand wearing them (I...
nice finds ladies!
Here's my recent ebay win, a lot of two shirtwaist dresses from the 50s. Both with Dallas or Texas labels, I love when I find something vintage that's from my own stomping grounds! (hopefully they'll fit)
I guess I'm lucky enough to have a pretty much proportionate shape, but I have noticed that the letting out / taking in works really well for a lot of things. If its just slightly not right, try adjusting the darts.
One of the first wiggle dresses I found was fabulous, but a bit tight around...
imoldfashioned: I have a dress that's kind of like that too! I can fit into it and zip it up, but it just isn't that flattering and is not very fun to sit down in. Its a very cool dress so I'll keep it for the days when I'm a bit lighter :)
What about vintage tap shoes? I had found a pair of black ones from the 40s at a thrift store for $4. The heels are usually low (and comfy to dance in) and the style of the shoes are really cute. You should be able to find some on ebay too. Most people sell them for pretty cheap (because of the...
thanks Ladies, I'm looking forward to the shopping (who doesn't look forward to shopping?)
nicoletta: not sure that I'll be able to venture out of the immediate SF area but maybe I can get a friend of ours from Oakland to drive us around. thanks!
lady day: thanks for the yes and no's, (I...
katiebrooks that would be fun. I'll be in town the 16, leaving the 20th. Any events already going on that we could do a meetup at? Most of my evenings are planned (somewhat) I plan on exploring and shopping (see my vintage clothing thread) during the day.
