That is so sweet. I love Gibsons. I have a '66 J-45 and an '86 ES-175. (As well as a '37 Martin f-hole.) All were my grandfather's. I'll take some pics this weekend and post them.
I understand placing a maximum bid and ebay bidding for you in increments up to that amount, I was just confused why that bidder's identity didn't appear in the bid history until after the auction was over. Clicking "show automatic bids" in the bid history showed that Billy was actually the...
And I just realized that one of my all-time favorite movies, LA Confidential, which could have been a really cool hat movie...almost no hats at all. I think two corrupt cops wear hats. That's it. Unbelievable.
I know. I'm rewatching a lot of period movies just to look at the hats now. For instance, I've seen The Untouchables probably 20 times over the years, but watched it again this week only to discover that the narrow band on Costner's lid bugs me. It just doesn't look right to me.
And...
Congrats, Billy, that is a fine looking fedora. But I guess I'm still not getting it, because I don't understand how one can place a bid (or a maximum bid) without that bid showing up in the bid history until the auction is over.
I'm not aware of sniping software, either. I'm such a noob...
I just missed out on an Adams, will have to file that under "defeats." But I've got a question about bidding on ebay which I hope someone can answer. I posted a bid just before time ran out, and I was immediately outbid. I rebid, and was outbid again and the auction ended. No big deal. But...
I keep a list of period movies, and I couldn't come up with a lot for the late 50s and early 60s. But two pretty decent ones are:
JFK
Malcolm X
with the added bonus of zoot suits :eusa_clap
Being rather new to this hat addiction,* it is only in the last couple of days that have I realized the Classifieds here is another resource for me.
*Seriously, I have gone from oblivious to obssessed in short order. After only three weeks, I cannot fathom leaving the house without a hat.
The Sunday Night Stetson Massacre
I had a good night, I went 2 for 3: I won a Stetson 15 3X Mode Edge and a Stetson 50 7X Open Road, and lost out on a beautiful Stetson Whippet.

Here you go, my Stetson Medalist panama, worn while grilling burgers today. The seller replaced the sweat, but sent the original with the hat. I don't much like that pug hatband, so I got a black grosgrain today at Miller's.
Took it to Shudde Brothers today. Turns out it was an old Shudde Brothers repair to probably a 1950s-60s Stetson Open Road, with a repair any time after that up through the 1980s as Shudde Brothers used the same style sweatband for years. It'll be cleaned up and ready in 8 weeks. I can't wait.
