Sorry to hear that Sir Wickets is gone, GG617! The Orange traffic circle must seem empty without it.
There's a Village Hat Shop in Long Beach, at the Shoreline Village complex just up the way from the Yard House. It's a good place to try on hats. I started there...but unfortunately jumped the...
Go for the Campdraft, Shawn--it's a great hat. Mine was about $100 USD with shipping via airmail. No customs was due (I'm guessing Akubra builds those fees into the mailing cost); once the lid arrived in the U.S., the USPS picks it up and sends it on its way. I've ordered two hats from Hats...
This hasn't happened to me lately, Bill, but it happened with an old fishing hat I'd sometimes wear waaay back when I was in 7th grade. One kid would come up behind me and take it off my head, and then they'd play keep away. Used to irritate me to no end...and it continued until I lost patience...
Nice, NB! You took the plunge and you've got a good, functioning bow here, and I like the larger "knot" between the bow ends. It's a little daunting to take that on, isn't it? I was sure I was going to ruin my hat when I tried it...And as you suggested, my only thought is to tack down the bow...
Lots of great looks here today!
MichaelShane--love that b&w photo of you and your dog...looks like you're both enjoying a spring day.
ScottF--a dead ringer for Lemont Cranston (or should I have given away the Shadow's secret I.D.?)--nice Cavanaugh.
HPGene--that Panama looks perfect on...
Thanks, CRH--I'm gonna take that as high praise!:D
And yeah, you're right...without thinking about it, what I was really trying to do was to capture what I'd really like in a Fed V: bound brim (although I'd take it a little wider still), non-dimensional brim that snaps, a wind cord (just for...
Yes, but it's still a wolf, right? :D
Thanks, everyone, for your comments on the Campdraft ribbon exchange. Wore it today dressed up a bit more than my weekend casual, so here's my final pic:
Now I'd like to see if anyone else can have some fun with those great Campdrafts...who's next?
Some great spring lids, gentlemen (and lady)! Glad to see the weather cooperated with everyone and allowed those great straws to be brought into the sun...not to mention that extraordinary blue gray lid JtL's sporting.
As posted with pics on the new hats thread, today I completed my new...
Campdraft Conversion
Thanks for the great comments, all. As Mr. Paladin and Not-Bogart13 indicate, that thin ribbon on the Campdraft is a beauty. But I'm more a wide ribbon guy, so I thought I'd attempt a ribbon switch.
Happily, Hats Direct includes this very helpful link when it e-mails...
