I'll be happy to e-mail him and let him know of my interest. GTD, could you provide his address for us? I've got the general sales address, but not Ron's.
Thanks,
Steve
Born-Again Californian
Just discovered this great thread and happy to see there are so many Californians in the Lounge. I've lived in Long Beach for 9 years this month, after growing up in New England and living in various parts of the country, from Maine to Seattle...and with a place in Palm...
Found a Vintage Stetson...help
After visiting a local coffee shop to work on student essays today, I strolled down the street to my favorite Long Beach vintage shop, The Vintage Collective on 4th Street. Occasionally I'll find a cool mid-century modern ashtray or side table, but never a fedora...
Funny, gtdean, but I just posted my previous response to Dundee about wanting a Moonstone CD, and then saw your note. I'm right behind you in line for that Moonstone Heritage Campdraft--sign me up for a 59!
That mid-brown looks fantastic, Dundee. I've gotta say that my Silverbelly CD is far and away my favorite hat. I'm thinking of dropping a note to Hats Direct or Akubra...a Moonstone version would be fantastic! I'd also be curious to see pics of the blue/green, if anyone has one.
Hi Redhawks,
I recently put a new 1.5" ribbon on a Campdraft and had the same problem initially. I followed the same advice the gents here give: make sure the ribbon fits snugly to the hat, and then wet/steam the top of the ribbon...it should shrink it down a bit to conform to your taper. You...
:arated: I agree with RBH...and the brim looks fine to me. It may look a bit wide because your crown is smaller than that of a Fed IV from Akubra, but it seems to fit you fine.
Excellent find, bakers44! Why is it when I go to vintage/thrift stores, all I see are blouses and jackets my grandmother would have worn?? And even worse, they don't even look good on me! :D
Burgandi, for future reference, the Akubra Campdraft is a fantastic hat. It cost me about $100 including shipping from Australia, and it is now my absolute favorite. So, for a future event, consider that--or the Fed IV--as a likely gift idea.
Having said that, for the present, LEAP on that...
Sorry, Goose, but I gotta say:
Look up the phrase "honorable gentleman" or, in the slang dictionary, "helluvaguy," and you'll see Goose's avatar pictured. Very nice, my friend.:eusa_clap
I live in Long Beach, Trimen, but since I'm not on the university's campus, I haven't run into that gent yet. If I did, though, I'd simply open the conversation with a compliment on his fedora, maybe asking if it was vintage and who the maker was. Always cool to see someone with that kind of...
I'm with you, Neil--I got the same orders from mine after he removed a "pre-cancerous" bit of skin from my temple. That was enough to scare me into fedora fashion, which I quite appreciate now.
Wow, 1911, that's pretty close to perfect. :eusa_clap
I've been wanting to find a Whippet in good shape, but you're helping me realize that maybe the best bet would be a Whippet repro like the one you mention. Time to start saving the pennies...
Nice, Lefty...thanks for those links; they should be stickies.
I agree, hats could come back into broader fashion beyond the Timberlake-of-the-moment. Many men I've talked to admit a curiosity about wearing a fedora, typically relying on the "I'd look foolish in one" excuse. But if a friend...
