In my town they are very common in very dark green waxed cotton with a corduroy collar. But most of them are made by Barbour;
and never in leather. I don't know elsewhere but in my town, it's the preppies' official outfit. This picture could have been perfectly taken around here...
That's what I thought. And the current owners are not even british. This brand is owned by a Swiss 'luxury conglomerate'. Therefore, Brad Pitt jacket was 'period incorrect', right?
I mean this style of jacket;
Since they claim they invented this jacket during the 1960s [huh] I wonder if they were originally made with leather. I always have seen this style of jackets in some kind of waxed fabric but never in leather until recently.
In the middle ages. It was the classic monk outfit [huh] According to the wikipedia;
"The hooded sweatshirt was first produced in the United States starting in the 1930s. The modern clothing style was first produced by Champion in the 1930s and marketed to laborers working who endured freezing...
Pack a couple of wool gloves in all your jackets. They don't take space and they are cheap.
'Polar vortex' dwellers are going to hate me; 64F here. More or less same latitude than NY. :eusa_doh:
Yeah, "the ton" was some kind of achievement back then ;) I once read that they inserted a coin into the jukebox and they tried to go and come back from one cafe to another before the song ended. Anything by Eddie Cochran or Gene Vicent. Two and half minutes long at most.
I was at the Ace Cafe...
Coined by Aero? :eeek: This is the story as I know it; after WWII the UK started to build its "motorways" network with rest stops along them. Then, bikers started to ride their machines through these "motorways". They enjoyed doing "the ton". That is riding from one rest stop to another, from a...
Hey thanks! Surferbruce, Meerkat, and Pipvh
Thedi Leathers is a discovery. I love their Indian jacket;
Yeah, I know. I won't purchase from them without trying first. Last time I was at their shop here everything they had was horrible.
Mine only goes to -22F [huh]
For me;
30 = I'll get by
20 = I'm starting to feel it, let me take my gloves
-10 = Shearling time. My ears about to explode, nose ok, butt starting to freeze off.
-20 = Ears and nose already exploding, ass totally freezed off
-30 = Let's see if N-3B really...
Thanks Andrew and Carlos :)
I want it minimalistic, like this Schott CAF1;
There is a Schott outlet near my town, I'm going to drop by. It's strange there aren't more makers in Europe. I thought cafe racer jackets were a British invention. :)
Hey, thanks Andrew :)
I'm after something similar to the J-100. I like its simplicity; no collar, no action back, no belts, just a couple of chest pockets and a zipper.
You have a 'Polar vortex' coming this Sunday, 5th in the USA;
The temperature predictions are startling: 25 below zero in Fargo, N.D., minus 31 in International Falls, Minn., and 15 below in Indianapolis and Chicago. At those temperatures, exposed skin can get frostbitten in minutes and...
I was planning to get the Diamond Dave J-100 but after having problems with the ****ing custom office, I back down. Last time I was charged around 45% in taxes. DD's jacket is $900. After taxes it'll go to $1,300. For the same money I can purchase the Real McCoy's Buco J-100 in England. And then...
I don't know if it is your jeans but I think it runs a little short front-length. Not too much short, just to the limit. A little shorter and you'd start to look like a bullfighter.
You're neat with the Gustin jeans and those nice boots. Your twin brother Gary would be proud. :D
