If it fits you and you like it and it doesn't have any issues (the sweatband concerns me a bit) you just have to decide how much it is worth it to you.
At $50 there probably isn't any "room" in it for resale but not a bad price if you are going to keep it.
I'd love to know what it really is but at that size it probably doesn't matter anyway.
The winner sure had a tight one trying to figure out how high to go to beat the sniper. Whatever his final number was, it was enough.
Good for him.
Cavanagh's don't get nearly the prices they should. I don't buy them to resell anymore (unless they're melon size), not worth the effort compared to some other brands.
Sounds like the Imperial might be a homburg. I have no luck at all with those.
If the hats fit and you can get them cheap...
Won this one and a stingy Champ on ebay for $19.50 including shipping. She crammed the Champ down tight onto the Stetson, tossed them in a box and shipped them. The Champ is nothing but the Stetson isn't bad.
Looks rather like a Wanderer. Close enough anyway. 2 3/8" brim and 7/8" ribbon. A...
I kinda thought the other way around. Seller gets the most $ possible for his item and buyer pays one bid more than anyone else will. Sellers are always hoping for "auction fever" to set in, let those buyers start thinking "must win" and drive up the price.
Fun to watch at a live auction.
NO!!
Note the heading for that photo "Vita-Felt 3(or4?)" - that info is for the CURRENT production hats for sale in Europe. No question about their content.
That isn't the vita-felt process we're talking about.
A lot of eBay auctions end after I'm away from the computer. If I used one of those sniping programs my budget would be totally blown and I'd have to build a dog house.
Sometimes I will throw a low bid in early just to remind myself this is one I really would like to have. If some guy bids 10...
So ask yourself these questions:
If Stetson was only using casein to blend with wool in the making of women's hats, why would ARALAC, Inc. seek to have patent #2,322,254 invalidated due to a negative impact on ARALAC's ability to sell its casein fiber to hat manufacturers? Patent #2,322,254...
Conclusions do not start with "It is possible that", speculation does.
"It was all marketing" is speculation without evidence of any kind.
I don't know why you are so hung up on price. Stetson was selling the vita-felts as something new and desirable. A low price does not make the consumer...
OK, I've responded ot dinerman's post.
Now would you please go to the trouble of reading the patent so you have some slight idea of what I'm talking about? The patent is not about using casein fiber with WOOL in making women's hats. It is about using casein fiber with FUR.
All of your...
Hello!!??? Hat Corporation of America got the patent on the process. Stetson didn't get a patent because HCoA already had one. Stetson licensed the patent from HCoA
Why yes indeed I have owned and handled several vita-felts. Looked at them under a microscope too. At the time I thought I...
Go back and READ what I said. You left out the important parts.
(A) casein was used in the making of hats during WWII with
(B) vita-felt hats were introduced and made by Stetson during WWII to conclude that
(C) Stetson was one of ARALAC's largest customers for casein. The legal case...
Well, since obviously some of you are incapable of logical deduction I guess this will end here.
There is a WEALTH of evidence pointing to "Vita-Felt process" including casein but it does require some intelligence in order to be able to understand and evaluate that evidence.
As to the...
