    Ancestor hat pics

Here's my Great Great Uncle "Dock" Boggs sometime in the early 1930's: He was a famous founder of Bluegrass. You can search youtube to hear some of his music. He was my Great Grandma's uncle. His older brother was her father. He played at family get togethers in Wise county Virginia...

More bad luck with an unreeded sweatband

This is a completely different hat. Thanks though. That was an Adam fedora, this is a top hat whose maker name escapes me at the moment. You do keep on monitoring the halls and stifling discussion though. ;)

More bad luck with an unreeded sweatband

Well, I won an auction for a Beaver Top Hat in "excellent condition" for my daughter for christmas and the dang sweatband is almost unattached. :rage: Of course it's not reeded so I don't know what the heck to do now. It's absolutely beautiful besides that fact and the sweat looks as new...

The Dumbest Comment I Ever Heard

If you had foot problems and wore a pair for a few days you'd change your mind. They help with my peripheral neuropathy. I agree they are ugly as heck though. I just don't care though as sometimes function is more important than form.

The Dumbest Comment I Ever Heard

Most of the mouth breathers who feel the need to open their mouths don't appreciate someone being "better" than stopping to their level.

    US Hat sizes discrepancy

Thank you very much Andy! That definitely eases my mind. Now to see if I can pull off a Homburg, though I rarely wear a suit-hehe.

    US Hat sizes discrepancy

So, I've noticed that the hat size charts are different many times. I've seen 7 1/8 described as 22 1/4 all the way to 22 1/2. Anyone have a chart that is correct and we can forget all others? Reason I'm asking is because I won a Stetson Homburg that is 7 1/8 and I usually wear a 7 1/4...

The Dumbest Comment I Ever Heard

My usual response to anyone giving me crap about what I wear is to ask them if they're gay (not that there is anything wrong with that). When they say "no", I ask them why they give a damn what another man wears. I then ask them if they watch that show where gay guys dress a guy up and if...

The Dumbest Comment I Ever Heard

Hey now, I wore my Adam Executive, black slacks, black dress shirt, and a pair of black crocs today while running errands. Bash them all you want but crocs are darn comfortable. Ugly yes, but the best pair of shoes I've owned in years.

My western conversion, Early Adam Executive, and Lock

Thanks, JT! Here is the promised pic of the brim binding and another showing the bow, or lack of.

My western conversion, Early Adam Executive, and Lock

I got the Adam off of Ebay from a guy in Portland, Oregon. It even has the remnants of the price tag and says McLoughlin's Dept. store on the sweat. This is the unreeded sweat that needs restitching, btw. I'll see if I can get a better pic up for you tonight.

Love the color, wish it were mine ...

Beautiful work Tony! I like to do the same with old warhorse rifles from the past. My hobby up until now has been to restore firearms from our past. I hope to get as good at this new hobby as I am with that one and at least half as good as you are. It is now very apparent whose brain...

    took the plunge -

Congrats and Hi to a fellow Michigan member! I'm up near Capac and also new to Fedoras but not to westerns. Any Michigan members get any work done on old or new hats at Henry the Hatter's? Just wondering about their quality. Sorry for the hijack.

My western conversion, Early Adam Executive, and Lock

Thanks! I forgot to mention that the Bailey was cut down from a 4.5 inch to a 3 and 1/16th brim. I basically eyeballed it, cutting off a small amount at a time, and sanded the high spots. Took awhile but I like the hat much better now.

My western conversion, Early Adam Executive, and Lock

Here's my Bailey in Bone that was a 4x western up until a few hours ago: The ribbon looks black here but is actually Greyhound and looks sort of bluish in certain light. It is supposed to be from the mid 19th century. The pistol is a 1903 Colt made in 1923. Here is my Eary '40's...

    Reattaching an unreeded sweatband?

Yeah, that's me, Mike. If you could edit that out it would be appreciated. Well, I got out the sewing kit and gave it a go at patching the areas. It isn't very pretty but it's holding well. Should work until I need to get a more permanent repair done. I'll have to go around to some...

    Reattaching an unreeded sweatband?

I didn't mean anything about Mike. I was just saying Dang because I'd really love to have this hat stay original. I hope you didn't take from my post that I was denigrating Mike in any way, because I assure you that was not my meaning at all.

    Reattaching an unreeded sweatband?

Yeah, I took a good look and the thread is what is deteriorating. The leather almost looks new. So Mike, would it be possible for you to reed my unreeded sweatband? Unfortunately, there are no decent hat shops near me that I know I can trust. Being that a FL member recommended you, I could...
