There's a practical reason I've found for not wearing my hat whilst eating - the muscles that move my jaw also force my hat up and down when I chew.
Someone said your hat serves no purpose on your head when indoors. I beg to differ - if it's on your head, you have one fewer thing to carry...
I wouldn't think it has anything to do with the weave - just the amount of bleaching that has been done.
Personally, I prefer the look of natural straw. It seems a warmer colour.
Great! It held enough to last for the day. I assumed you'd have to refill it quite frequently. I don't know why I assumed that, though. I might give that a go then. Thanks.
I use a Parker fountain pen for writing special things. I know what you mean about ball-points making your wrist sore. But does anyone take a bottle of ink to a lecture theatre? (Imagine if it was knocked over when you had the lid off!) I have been using the cartridges, but they're...
Well, I thought so too. But since the guy in the poster is wearing his pants at a similar length - and it's a drawing - so the artist had artistic license to get things correct, I think it maybe it is acceptable.
Although he's probably wearing military trousers cut to be worn with boots. So...
So far, the photos I've found feature men with their trousers tucked into their boots. I'll keep looking.
The clothes are in good nick (he gave me a few shirts, too) and at least one other pair of trousers (I now recall). I'd say they were new or near new. One pair of trousers is named...
Yes, though the ones I have look exactly the style of the trousers in the Dig for Victory poster. I wouldn't be surprised if they're the same pattern as used in the 1940s (I'm pretty sure they aren't uniform now).
My Dad gave them to me. His other trousers are too short for me, but I know at...
Avedwards: Two of my friends did the Duke of Edinburgh Award program. I think they quite enjoyed it.
One of my friends (who is something of an outdoors man and who did the award) regularly wears a leather hat *similar* to this one...
Thanks for the reply. I had thought that, too. But then I saw this:
I guess some Army trousers would be cut like this to keep them a little bit out of the muck.
I thought that was interesting. Then I saw a picture in the "1930s ski and winter wear: images" thread (link below). In the...
Hello,
Sorry if this has already been discussed.
I've been given two 1960s N.Z. Army trousers (1 fawn and 1 khaki). They are pleated, they have wide legs (almost no tapering) and they have cuffs.
Both trousers fall just above my shoes when worn at my waist. A peek of my socks is...
Sorry if this has already been answered.
How would a paper hat fare in a light shower? I'm considering getting a paper panama. I don't know of any local shop which has straw panamas. Thanks.
Well, you're allowed to use our word if you want: I meant to put a question mark at the end of the first sentence. :eusa_doh: But I suppose people around you won't know what you're talking about. :)
Athletic t-shirt sounds ok.
I was wondering about this when I put on one of my...
Hello,
I'm not really considering getting one of these anymore. I'd still be interested to hear what you have to say about 'feltex' (if there is anyone here who has heard of it). Here's a 'feltex' bowler hat I found on Trademe. I assume it's similar. (I know, ridiculous angle. I'd say...
