Actually, the 20 round box magazines were far more common with US forces, with relatively fewer 30 round box magazines seeing action. The British forces seem to have had many more 30 round magazines in use. Strange really, as the 20 round box magazine original to the M1928A1 version, which was...
Finally got a photo of me wearing the Akubra Snowy River at Beltring in July this year. I steamed it a little to drop the sides down somewhat. Not much, but enough to stop it looking too "Country and western". I love this hat :)
The jacket arrived at about 8am thursday morning. It hadn't been sent until wednesday despite me being told it would be out on tuesday, but I can forgive them that. Most definitely worth the wait, this jacket is superb! The material is absolutely fantastic, the logos are very nice, the mouton...
Well, bit of a muck up on the Eastman front. I checked they had my size and ordered just after 11am yesterday morning by phone and was told it would be sent out that day. After waiting in all day today, nothing showed up. I emailed Eastman at about 3:30pm to ask if it had even been sent, but...
Pulled the trigger on one of these before lunch and it should be here tomorrow. I was after something warm, but with less weight than the Irvin. I can see it getting much more wear than the Irvin, which I found too heavy for our climate, even in the snows earlier in the year. Great in a vehicle...
No problem :) Some moderators on other forums get funny if you don't let them know a deal is finished with. I have no problem with it staying for future reference.
Thanks,

Eastman Leather Company 1942 pattern RAF “Irvin” flying jacket. Size 46. Actual internal measurement from armpit to armpit is approximately 48 inches, allowing for jumpers or battle dress to be worn underneath. Plenty long enough for anyone up to 6ft 2in tall. One year old and only worn on two...
The M38 leggings are basically the 1917 pattern with more holes and hooks. All used round cotton laces. I've never seen a pair with leather laces before, and believe that those are not original to the leggings.

Leather laces are a cow to get tight...
I'd really like to shift this, so I'm reducing it down to £65 plus postage. It really is a lovely jacket, but just too big for me now I'm reducing myself lol
Size 46 inch chest. Almost brand new. Probably worn a dozen times at most. Distressed look to leather, very supple skin, distressed Triumph logo to lower back, embroidered Triumph badge to front left chest, two external and one internal zip pockets, substantial brass zips to front, cuffs and...
I can confirm that mine still looks as it did a week after the Pecard treatment, which is now six months ago. It did get two very liberal applications, and took a whole week to dry completely, but the difference in the look and feel of the skin is astounding.
I found a coat of Pecards did the trick on my vintaged '42 pattern. See photos halhway down this page of before an after:

I too found the distressed finish to be very dry, like elephant skin. The Pecard softened it and gave real...
Sound advice. My ELC Irvin lives on a hanger, but is custom made (by me) to the exact width of the shoulders, with wide pads at the end. As yet, it has not stretched or deformed at all, after hanging for the last 6 months or so. The trick is to make the hanger fit the slope of the shoulder...
You won't regret it. The Irvin will stay with you long after you've traded in the car for another. I'm a similar height and a 38 inch waist, and also have a size 46, so you won't be far wrong.
