    Reconstructing Suzy Homemaker

Newspapers from the era you're looking at will also give you a less romanticized view of the every day housewife's life: local department store ads will provide a more realistic sense of what she wore than magazine articles. Articles on local events may give you a sense of the types of...

Do you think it is sexy if a man dresses in Vintage clothes?

I agree with the others who have said that clothes must fit properly to be flattering--vintage or not. I also think a man has to be comfortable and confident in what he's wearing in order to come across as sexy. There's nothing like fidgeting with your outfit to ruin the look. While my husband...

Excuse me Miss, do you Blog?

New blog post on how to put a modern lipstick in a vintage holder.

high end vs low end products ?

I am primarily a drug-store cosmetic consumer, but will occasionally try something higher-end. For years, I had so little disposable income that drugstore make-up was my only option--during those years I found things that work for me, and I tend to stick with them unless they're discontinued or...

    Vintage-Inspired clothing lines

I'm looking for a black halter top and not having much luck - anyone have any suggestions? I was looking at Vivien of Holloway, but I'm in the US and want it for an event in just over 2 weeks and fear it wouldn't arrive in time. Mode Merr, Heartbreaker, DaddyO's, and PinUpGirl Clothing (which is...

I agree that Pinterest can become totally addictive. Almost as addictive as the Lounge here. ;)

Anyone else collect vintage makeup? Post pics!

I both collect and resell vintage compacts and cosmetics, and I only remove the original makeup if it's absolutely necessary - like if a powder well lid is loose and getting old makeup EVERYWHERE, or if a lipstick is really grotty. For me, seeing the old colors and smelling the original...

What is your favorite red lipstick brand/shade?

Yesterday I splurged at Neiman Marcus on a lipstick and liner by a line I had never heard of before: Le Metier de Beaute. The liner is in a color called Rose, which is really a true red, the lipstick is the Color Core Moisturizing Lipstick in China Beach. It feels like silk on, and wears pretty...

    Is this a faux pas?

Of course I'll post pictures of me wearing the dress. The event isn't until Tuesday night, so photos probaby won't show up here until Wednesday at the earliest. The dress is not vintage, but has a nice vintage style...you'll see it soon, I promise!

    Is this a faux pas?

Thank you all! I was stunned when she said it was a faux-pas. I love my dress, feel comfortable and pretty in it, and now plan to wear it with my head held high. Have also convinced another coworker that she doesn't need to rush out and buy something just for the occasion.

Excuse me Miss, do you Blog?

New post on the dilemmas of shopping for pencil skirts. I have a hard enough time finding modern clothes that fit, amen to all of you who can find actual vintage that works for you! http://powderkegcompacts.wordpress.com/2012/02/10/the-pencil-skirt-problem/

    Is this a faux pas?

Next week I have to attend my company's global sales meeting in Boston. There is a formal awards ceremony one evening. A coworker and I were discussing what we planned to wear and I said I intend to wear the dress I wore to the company Christmas party. Her response: "I was thinking about...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

One of my co-workers just told me I look like I stepped out of a movie. And on the way into the office, a relatively new co-worker told me she likes that I dress up and don't wear jeans all the time, even though that's perfectly acceptable in our office.

Not trying to be cute, but...

I'm waiting for some of our Southern friends to chime in with the difference between cute, sweet, and nice. My first mother-in-law was raised in the south and her daughter settled in Georgia for a while, and they tried to explain the heirarchy to me. As I recall, "cute" was the ultimate...

Excuse me Miss, do you Blog?

I just started a blog about vintage compacts, cooking/cookware, and the classic car I'm lusting after. Only a few posts so far, but I've had a blog in the past and know I'm disciplined about posting. http://powderkegcompacts.wordpress.com/

    Ideas for kitchen?

Light blue and cream floor tiles could be pretty. If you don't want to replace your major appliances at this time, I second what LizzieMaine said about gadgets. Get yourself a vintage toaster or a great coffee percolator. You could also show off your dishes or mixing bowls with one glass-fronted...
