A pellet rifle is a not a "firearm" under the definitions in the NYS Penal law. I'm retired NYSP BUT, I'd bet your town ordinance covers air rifles. Cage traps can work on woodchucks but then you have to dispose of them. Some people report good results running a hose from their car exhaust down...
Okay, I must not be making it clear. I'm not after a particular style. What I'm asking is what do I look for in the hats material description? I want a pliable, soft, easy to conform to my head straw/palm material. All I can find that are labeled or ID'd as "straw" are these hard, stiff almost...
Title pretty much says it. I want a soft straw/palm/whatever hat, more or less western or Aussie style, for sun protection. I have a long oval noggin and the very stiff, almost plastic feeling hats I can get locally (TSC, etc) simply suck swamp water. I want something that will easily conform to...
We have one grey goose left. I think SWMBO ID'd it as an African. Very aggressive, I won't be sorry when it dies. Our white geese are far less nasty but you still want to watch it around them. I like ducks a lot better than geese. Tastes a lot better too IMO.
Free range always sounds nice. Our...
We heat exclusively with wood off our farm here. We do the logging, cut and split and stack it oursleves. Most of the wood is cut in winter and skidded out with a 1950's JD 40 crawler, but I'm hoping to get nack into using my draft horses. Horse are lots handier int he woods.
A much better homesteading book-

We're up in St Law Co. Suggestion- build the garage/workshop first. You need someplace to put your stuff. Observation- chickens and guineas won't do squat for your bug problem if they're in a coop. Guineas are VERY LOUD too. None mentions that on all the back to the land sites.
A quote I heard...
We farm/homestead here in Northern NY. I can't really say I'm a "real" farmer around here because I'm not milking 100 Holsteins as my sole source of income, so I sort of self identify as a homesteader. We have a little under 350 acres, raise sheep for money, have a decent line of dairy goats...
I can't help it. Due to some weird birth defect or all that time I spent sticking my noggin between fence rails, I'm a long oval. A 7 1/4" is a little too tight, a 7 3/8" a little loose. Will a hat stretcher shaped to a long oval help me? I'm no fashion plate, I wear hats because of the dreaded...
In the old days the Stetsons, Strattons now, looked much like the Span/Am War photos posted here. "Professionalism" kind of did away with anything resembling "flair" in wearing the uniform. These days uniformity is valued above any unique look. Besides, that crown adds 5-6" to your height and...
This could have been a great flick. The elements were there. The actors were capable. But it failed somewhere. I had high hopes for it, but it just never came through. I also lowered my opinion of Paltro even more. I don't see any great talent there. Sad.
I believe I've seen a couple Davis SXS through the years. While not an LC Smith , Ithaca or Parker, they were serviceable guns. Assuming the one you choose, (get the 16!!!), is tight and otherwise in good shape I'd say go for it. You'll want to see if the 16 has the 2 1/2" or 2 3/4" chambers...
Burton Cummings= Lead singer for The Guess Who in the early days. Still around and heard on CBC's "Finklemans 45's" recently. Can't recall his hit singles, but there were several.
