And, I just found out he passed away in 2014: this is from a post I just found on Fedora Lounge:

I'm so sorry to report with a heavy heart that master hatter Alexander Conley has passed away. I meet him a couple years ago and he opened his doors to me and we talked shop for a...
I dug it up. This is from a post I made here in 2008:
Conley Hats, “The mad hatter,” is sir ALEXANDER CONLEY at 1112 34th Ave. (just south of East Union Street on 34th).
*He makes custom-made hats as well, very cool guy, he said he's 73.
That would make him about 88 today.
A gentleman in Seattle who was well known and respected by all. I went to his store/service place around 2008 and he was THE go-to guy for all things hats. I heard he closed down his store and may’ve passed away. Not entirely sure, but he’s nowhere to be found.
Now that the great Mad Hatter is no more, I have a vintage Stetson I need cleaned and blocked, and don’t know where to start.
Who does this now? I live in greater Seattle area…
Thanks!
Just picked up this gem at a sale.
Anyone know what year it is based on the inside tag on the sweatband?
It was originally purchased at Blocksteins, a very old and closed (1981) popular retail outlet in Houston, TX.
Is “90070” a clue to the year it was made?
Oh, and it needs a pro blocking...
Picked this up at an estate sale. It's a very cool fedora. A BORSALINO Allessandria - made of mohair (?) with a course linen ribbon. The weird things is the size: it's a "4 1/2" according to the inside tag, but it feels more like a 6 1/8-ish. . It was originally purchase at "SPALLOTTA Roma" and...
haha. 100% truth-- it's the same hat. And yes, Alex does hat resizing.
I basically lucked out here-- I was willing and able to pay good money for a vintage Fedora once I found one in my size and era preference. And a chance-encounter at Goodwill (dragged in by my GF) led me to this.
The hat...
Good point CARTER-- and again, props to Tony for steering me in the right direction: Conley Hats, sir ALEXANDER CONLEY is at 1112 34th Ave. (just south of East Union Street on 34th). His phone # is (206) 322-1868.

I was--as some of you know--looking for a '50s Stetson fedora size 71/2 to 7 5/8. Well, I found one, of all places, the Goodwill outlet in Sodo dist of Seattle. It was in pretty bad condition but, like Charlie Brown and the tree, I was determined to nurture it back to life. Fedora Lounge regular...
hahaha! So true! I was reprimanded by the Bernie Utz Hat Dominatrix for doing just that! I felt like I had pee'd on the carpet.
Anyway, speaking of SEATTLE. Does anyone know of a good HAT BLOCK/repair service in Seattle I could take my vintage '50s Stetson Fedora to, it's in dire need of a...
Thanks!
very cool-- thanks for sharing! I wish that catalogue was still valid!
That style of hand drawings in ads and catalogues of the era is such a lost art...
