Goose hunting is a lot of fun with a nice sxs, when we hunt the fields I use a Spanish made 12GA and I find it makes the experience a little nicer. I stick with a 870 in the sloughs and on the lakes, no sense in tempting fate.
It's too bad that the shooting seems a little tough to access, up...
Use the Parker!!!!
Steel shot be damned, there are a few alternatives to steel that are perfectly legal to use AND safe in your gun. Look for Kent Tungsten Matrix, it is tungsten powder suspended in polymer and is identical to lead. Bismuth shot is another way to go.
As for the post about...
Fiction-
The Two-Space War, Dave Grossman & Leo Frankowski
Prince of Sparta, Jerry Pournelle & S.M. Stirling
Starship Troopers, Robert A. Heinlein
A Confederation of Valor, Tanya Huff
All re-reads and why, oh why, can't Hollywood do a book adaptation without totally fouling it up beyond...
Must reads for classic adventure stories,
Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan is just the beginning.
H. Rider Haggard, Allan Quatermain series
The books published by a lot of the professional hunters over the years are great adventure stories, and have the advantage of being true(mostly);)...
Both, actually
I find that I am for the most part a happy drunk, I don't drink to excess very often, I've been falling down drunk maybe once in the last 5 years. I do find that a quick 2 or 3 in the first hour or so and 1 an hour after that keeps me out of trouble.
I tend to listen a lot...
mmm....cow
Beef, Beef, Beef,
The Rib Steak is the reason that the charcoal barbeque exists, porterhouse, prime rib, t-bone. Great cuts of marbled redness, seared to perfection, with a great Burgundy served with GOOD fries and an ice cold iceberg lettuce - cucumber - radish salad.
Shhh!
Don't tell the poor man about such things, after all you can pick up a good DE on eBay for $5-10. And really, that's all that you need, well, maybe a good badger brush...hmm...not sure which handle I like best...maybe horn....and the rosewood....and the porcelain is a good deal...you...
.303 & looking good in the field
Yorker,
You're right about the Lee-Enfields, the only thing that looks more like a light safari rifle should is a Lee-Metford that I got to handle, 26" bbl, dust cover, magazine cut-off, express sights and a dial aperture marked for 900yds along with what...
Straight's the way
I use a Dovo Bergischer Lowe straight with Trufitt & Hill West Indian Limes cream and follow up with an alum block and rose water. If I'm in a hurry I use the T&H preshave oil. I've been using this thing for about two months now and I will never ever go back to one of those...
Express Rifles - not quite as $$$
I've also heard that the Pedersoli isn't quite all that. If you are willing to sacrifice a bit (well maybe a lot) these rifles aren't out of reach. Right now Champlin Arms has a Kreighoff .470NE in the Classic for sale at under ten thousand, well only a hundred...
the .303 and Bell
I have just finished reading this thread over the last few days and thought that I could add a little bit of info. Early on the Metford and Enfield were mentioned and the differences between the two were wondered about. The Metford used a shallow segmental rifling form...
