Just posted on ebay - my vintage tan Abercrombie & Fitch fedora size 7 3/4

Just posted this on ebay - it's a vintage tan fedora from Abercrombie & Fitch, their "Safari" model, with the old band removed and a new brown grosgrain ribbon put on in its place (the old one was moth-eaten). For you younger readers, this is not Abercrombie & Fitch in its current guise as a...

Light gray Royal Stetson Whippet 7 5/8 long oval

SALE PENDING! Here's a vintage 1940s light gray Royal Stetson Whippet in really excellent shape. (It's the hat I'm wearing in my profile pic, BTW) More photos here: http://gs149.photobucket.com/groups/s63/MQSGF0DQUD/ I purchased it several months ago here on the Lounge and subsequently...

    Need Panama advice

Is this hat any good? The price seems too cheap. I don't want another Panama that's going to crack on me after a few weeks. http://www.vintagesilhouettes.com/mh0741.htm Any suggestions much appreciated.

    Ness's 3/4 Jacket

Which is a shame because I think it was Armani who in the 80s came up with those loose-fitting double-breasted suits that buttoned on the bottom button instead of the middle, which meant that your tie always fell out of the jacket.

Wanted: vintage gray fedora in 7 5/8 to 7 3/4

Having just missed out on a great one on ebay, I now turn here for help. Does anybody have one laying around they'd care to dismiss? Can pay cash or McDonald's gift certificates, whichever you prefer.

    Coiffure au naturel

Ordinarily I like to add something to my unruly locks to maintain some order, but when you acquire a pristine 1940s hat with a spotless silk liner, you don't want to goop the thing up. This got me thinking about Buddy Ebsen, who bucked the hairstyle trends so much that to look at a photo of...

    New chase fedora

Just received this hat yesterday. What a beaut! Fits perfectly, for once. Apparently was never worn. Still has the $10.00 price sticker under the sweat band. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=52369&item=8139835717&rd=1

    The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned. It is a four-year old film, after all. But has anyone else seen and enjoyed this as much as I did?

    Bond.

Well, this is slightly outside of the time constraints of this forum, but it definitely is one of the 'finer things' in life. I started viewing the James Bond canon on DVD this week. Started with 'Dr. No' and continued with 'From Russia With Love.' Those are my two favorites, and they're the...

    anachronisms abound

Did anyone see "The Notebook?" [crickets chirping.] Didn't think so. My wife dragged me, kicking and screaming, into the theatre, explaining that "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" would not be a sufficiently romantic "Date Movie" for our eighth wedding anniversary. Midway through the...

    Absinthe

Has this topic been brought up before? I'm only a part-timer here, so I may have missed it. It actually predates the 'golden era' of the 1930s and 1940s, but somehow I think it fits right in on this form. I read a book about it recently that got me curious, and there's a new company that...

    Tony Randall recommendations

The death of Tony Randall, along with a recent Roger Ebert reivew of "Down With Love," made me curious to see the movies Randall made with Rock Hudson and Doris Day. I would have regarded these as 'girl movies' beforehand, but I sort of enjoyed "Down With Love," mostly because of David Hyde...

    SOLD Wested shirt

I am offering my Wested Indy shirt up for sale. $60.00 via Paypal. That is a bargain. I am just too skinny for it, even though it is a medium. Worn and washed about 5 times. Never dragged behind a truck.

    Alistair Cooke

Until a couple weeks ago, I had somehow failed to get the word that Alistair Cooke had died. Cooke was best known to Americans as the host of "Masterpiece Theatre," but he was known to Brits for his "Letter From America," which broadcast on BBC for almost 60 years. His commentaries helped...

    Westerns

I got to see some of "My Darling Clementine" on the big screen this evening. I hadn't seen it before. That was an unexpected pleasure. Well, not really the BIG screen, but a very large, very wide television screen. It was enough to give me a sense of how impressive this film must have been on...

Good hats in the wackiest places

Has anyone ever seen the Argentinian film "De Eso No Se Habla" ("I Don't Want to Talk About It")? It stars Marcello Mastroianni as an older gentleman who falls in love with a young midget named Charlotte. Yeah. Anyway, he wears the best-looking panama hat I've ever seen. I'd love to have someone...

    Old Grey

This is old grey. I bought it for $25 at an antique store in Hopkins, Minnesota. The felt was very lightweight. So much so, it wasn't long before I wore a hole in the front pinch. I miss Old Grey. I miss those sunglasses too. I lost them at the Minneapolis airport in 1999. Bummer.
