Many thanks for all of your suggestions. It seems that my stiff zip problem is fairly common with a new jacket, particularly thick leather like FQHH.
I helped alleviate the problem by simply applying graphite from a pencil. Straight away the zip moved more freely.
Job done!
I have just taken delivery of a new Highwayman in brown FQHH .The quality is top notch, just as others have posted.
I originally went to the factory to get measured. I wanted a little extra room for layering in the winter. I am normally a 42 inch chest but when it was delivered it was a 44.

Red Wing 875
I had a problem with the stitching just below the top of each boot digging into my legs. I tried to grin and bear it to break the boots in; mistake!! I had cuts on both legs and this put me off the boots for a while.
In the meantime, I rubbed mink oil into the stitching and...
I have just taken delivery of the Redwing 875 boots. My first time out I felt I was walking in diving boots! Because I paid so much and loved the style I decided to persevere.
I developed cuts on both legs where the top of the boot is folded over on the inside. After liberal applications of...
I have owned both coats and I reckon that they are equally as warm. I would go for the kersey every time though (preferably WW2) because of the overall quality, look and feel. If you look at earlier posts, there are some interesting articles by "Peacoat."
I like the look of the 875 and as far as I am aware, mine were made in the US. A couple of points which may be of use: the sizes come out big and it is recommended in the UK to size down half or one full size. Also, I am aware that some Red Wings are made in China. I have also heard that there...
Yes, I did consider this but thought that they would darken. I did some research; Red Wing no longer produce the Irish Setter but instead make the 875 (light brown) and the 8138 (dark brown).
Red Wing Boots
I have just purchased a pair of Red Wing 875 boots. Do any other forum members have these boots and what do you think of them? I intend to use them all-year round.
I bought a pair of "Adrian" Tassell loafers last year. They are made in the UK on the original last used in the 70's. Some of the colours in the range are not to my taste though; I bought brown and dyed them black, which worked very well.
I had forgotten just how comfortable Doc Martens are!
As I previously mentioned, I see vests & singlets as the same item, having no sleeves. The garment with very short sleeves and three buttons at the front, I refer to as a "grandad shirt".
I can only confirm what others have said regarding the quality of modern peacoats compared with the older ones. I bought a 2004 year Sterlingwear coat which I was initially pleased with. It looked good, was warm in the winter and the fit was good.
