Good to know! I explained my concern and issue with the 57 CD from DM in the comment section during checkout so maybe HD took the time to check the sizing before shipping. It’s in transit now. Would’ve been more comforting if I had received some sort of acknowledgment that my comments were read.
You can always send them a message referencing your PO and concerns.

Thanks, Johnny! I took your advice and shot them a note with my concerns and Naomi has already responded. She assured me they read the comments and made for certain it would fit with room for shrinkage. It was a very personable response and I couldn’t be more impressed.

I have always been happy with HD. They probably have a sizing tool they can use when asked. Something like this.

I think the Fed IV is more of a long oval than the Campdraft. I too needed to stretch the Campdraft for more comfort, but the Fed IV of the same size fits like it was custom made.

You could be right. Different blocks in the same size but slightly different ovality would explain it. Only Akubra could answer that question, and I'm pretty sure they aren't talking. ;)

The SB (sand) CD has been in Chicago customs for almost 3 days now. I can almost smell it!
The tracking for my SBCD shows it was finally processed through Chicago customs and “received by postal carrier for delivery” this past Saturday. That was the 18th. Three days later and I can’t see that it has moved an inch since. Maybe that’s where the tracking stops and I’ll come home from work in the next couple of days and it will be on my doorstep…….in pristine condition.

For reference purposes; my order was placed on 6/3, shipping notification on 6/5, received by AU post on 6/6, Chicago on 6/13, received by postal carrier on 6/18. No other movement that I can see. I’m ready to get it in my hands and start bashing and then atop my dome.

Words of encouragement are welcome!

Just got a notification that a package has been left at my front door. Looks like I will have to make a run home real quick and check it out.

Obviously, the tracking number from the AU post stopped once it was cleared through customs.

The SBCD finally found its way home. Much to my surprise, the box was in pristine condition. Blew my mind. Of course, there was the handwritten note from Trudi as well.

First impressions: rather firm. I won’t say stiff but firm enough that it doesn’t want to hold side dents for very long. The felt is soft and plush. That flange has less curl than I expected, which is a good thing to me. The slightly flatter brim suits me much better and is exactly what I wanted. It’s a loose 57 which gives me plenty of room for shrinkage. I couldn’t be more pleased with the color.

Here are some pics right out of the box. A couple open crown and then some of a dry bash.

Wait for it. On all three of my Campdrafts, and my three Fed IVs as well, over the first couple of weeks the brim flange became more pronounced on each hat all by themselves. I like a nice curvy brim so I was pleased to watch this happen and did nothing to discourage it. If this happens on your hat I've heard there are ways to flatten a brim, but I don't care for flat brims so someone else will have to advise you on that.

Looks to me like you're off to a good start with regards to shaping your hat; looking forward to seeing the actual final results! ;)
