I could only find barnstormer with some in stock. Looking to get my hands on a Buco Jacket and a friend has family there...

It will get heavy but you’ll still be warm. That’s why navies used the Peacoat for so long, wool doesn’t loose that much heat when wet.

Some people might say their leather jacket can get rained on and be fine, but you are buying for life that generally means $1000 plus on a leather jacket, you’re either pretty brave or pretty stupid to test that out empirically.

The best option is an oiled deck jacket imo. You get the fur collar that makes so many flight jackets look cool, plus they are functionally waterproof unless you’re in a monsoon.

Personally I wear my leather when it’s sunny and bone dry outside, and if there is any chance of rain or snow I switch to a peacoat or deck jacket. But to each their own I guess.

Leather jackets are undoubtedly the coolest, but if I could only own one jacket it would be a deck jacket.

neither stupid nor brave, but they know what they are doing. I've soaked dozens of leather jackets on my motorbike in the past and my Aeros and Lewis Leather have also got very wet. No problem at all. Chromexcel in particular is almost like a rain jacket for me.
But why I still find a deck jacket nice in bad weather is that it is simply cosier and a leather jacket is colder.

Well I guess you learn something new every day. I soaked a Schott once a while ago but since I was getting rid of it anyway I never really cared or checked if it was alright after.

Your jackets honestly showed no signs of cracking or damage after the rain?

That’s crazy I was always told wearing leather in the rain was a death sentence just like not winding an automatic between 9 pm and 4 am.

No, everything is fine. The only thing I make sure of is that the wet jackets don't dry with heat. But otherwise everything is fine. I used to apply cream to the motorbike jackets from time to time when the leather felt a bit dry. But that was also very rare.

Also I might as well ask here. I’m a size **L in Iron Heart Jackets like their deck. Between size 40 and 42 in most brands. What size should I go for in Mr. Freedom Deck Jackets??

Generally chrome-tanned leather has better water repellency.

Shinki can keep the rain away only temporarily - soon enough the water will seep through and get through the lining.

Thinking of buying a used leather jacket, but the seller has said there’s a white mark on the jacket that resembles mold. Is this mold and is the jacket ruined, or is it easily redeemable?

I had a Fox Creek motorcycle jacket that was a mold magnet. I had to wipe it down every day. After loosing the battle for 6 months I sold it.
Once the mold spores get imbedded in the leather they are difficult to stop. I think it was just a bad batch of leather.
My house is kept at 35% humidity. I fought a tough battle but the spores won.

I mean I don’t know why you would buy a jacket that’s already moldy and restore it? Just save up your money for a better jacket or buy another used jacket that isn’t moldy. I’d rather buy a brand new polyester jacket than a moldy leather one imo.
