I’d stay as far away as I could from that brand. Doing the shoulder seam like that is just ridiculous. Hard pass from me.
If that's the only stitch holding the shoulder then it's pretty sketchy yeah. Also look at the lining/pocket stitching - pretty far from legendary JP precision - looks more like DIY job to me.

I use the term "pre war" to refer to jackets made prior to WWII essentially 30s jackets, then war time jackets, then post war jackets.

Broken down like this helps to show the changes in design of leather jackets, which I find interesting.

I call 1935 to early war years to be the Golden age of leather jacket design. If you follow the trail you will see the changes over time.

Thanks, TM. I keep hearing about prewar vs postwar leather jackets but what is it that distinguishes them from one another? Of course, design/pattern is visually obvious. I recall reading that they used to process their hides differently (veg tanned vs chrome tanned?), but can anyone be more specifically descriptive of what that “difference” is?

Unlabeled, thoughts on maker + year + hide? French seams inside the lapel. Zippers look 1950s.

Should I wear a suede / rough out jacket to bars / clubs?

I know full grain suede I.e. rough out is supposed to be very durable, but my bigger fear than scuffs and scratches (which I don’t mind at all) is someone spilling a drink on me, stain the jacket another colour. I don’t have experience with how easy this would be to clean, but in general is rough out more stain prone than smooth leather?

Scotch guard it first and then wear it hard. Life is too short to baby your gear.

Beer is the drink that gets spilled on me the most, which I hate
How often does this happen? I think that we've all gotten a drink spilled on us and it can happen anywhere, but the chances rise when going to densely populated places where people are basically getting hammered. I'm of the opinion of wearing your stuff and not babying it, but if I know that's what's coming I'm not going with my nicest clothes.

Pretty often, as many of the pubs in London get pretty busy, and people are drunk when they go to get their own drinks

I've done my fair share of pub crawling but in Dublin rather than London, only time pints fell on me were when someone knocked it over accidentally on the table (which often just got me in the trousers as flew through the table and barely on my top) or when the pub turns into a club at night.

This said: I would never wear nice clothes or shoes when simply going to the pub, although many people do it.

Sounds like you should be wearing a raincoat to the places you hang out. I'm not getting scuffed, scratched and drenched when out and about.

No, you should wear an actual leather jacket that could be easily wiped off with a napkin, such as a LW chrome-tanned horsehide.
