Greetings all,

I realise that I'm looking for a needle in a haystack, but I'm trying to track down some B-29 nose art, more specificic, the nose art of the B-29 that my grandfather flew in during WWII. For what it is worth, he was in a B-29 called "Axtell's Hammer".

Do any of you WWII buffs know where I could find collections of this type of art?

Cheers,

Matei

There is a Nose Art book I have at home, I'll check it tonight. If it's there, I'll let you know...

The other thing is you could post this on http://www.armyairforces.com/, and see if any of the people there could help you.

A few resources:

http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/mua.htm
(AF Museum archives)

http://www.au.af.mil/au/afhra/
(Unit histories)

http://www.nasm.si.edu/research/arch/services.cfm
(National Air & Space Museum Archives)

If you know the unit there are numerous publications devoted to scale aircraft modeling that have a good deal of nose art. (If you know the serial number of the aircraft that can help as well)

http://www.archives.gov/research/index.html
(National Archives) Likely in RG-342 collection but,......be aware that NARA staff can't help much and you really have to go to Maryland in person to do an effective search.

I do aviation historical research, but have narrowed scope to early rotary-winged aircraft, (I'm on the American Helicopter Society's history committee) if it was W.W. II helicopters I could really fix you up.

If you have the unit and aircraft serial number, it would be a great help.

PM me and I may be able to point you towards the right direction.
